I'm definitely really fascinated to visit either Teragard or New Domina and get some juicy new Saradomin backstory. I still don't like him as a person but at times I think that's because he reminds me too much of myself when I RP. Self centered, acting invincible, always claiming whatever decision I made in the heat of the moment was a good thing in retrospect, I could go on. He's probably the most world guardian-like god of the bunch, at least what I RP as. (With the dialogue options you can get quite different characters depending on who you follow)

I mainly hope with that "He can be redeemed, I believe, but that is more your choice than mine." bit they don't mistake my continued rebellion against him in quests and content as hating him. It's more that I want to take him down a peg so he actually listens to me. I'm not sure how well that'll work though, with his whole "black and white" mindset.

^ All of those traits are typical of the average human being, especially in Saradomin's position. One day you're a normal human boy or man going about your business in a world where everyone is self-superior and arrogant (again these two can be considered normal human traits), then all of a sudden you ascend to godhood and everyone turns to love you. In a place such as Teragard where the Magisters rule (they have no magic at all, instead harnessing technology that keeps the Schism in check), you are pretty much doomed to think yourself as the 'one true god' with a blown up ego; this is how people are brought up here.

Of course, being a human being he would have decent intentions. But these are tempered by humanity's shortcomings, as we have seen. Nobody particularly likes hearing the word 'no', or having their plans messed up.

Personally, I would help Saradomin with a few problems, but sometimes a line has to be drawn and as with the wand, I was basically saying to him, "No, this isn't the way. The centaurs can be saved by other means and this wand is dangerous. Let me destroy it and help find something else." I didn't chastise him for turning Owen into a half-zombie; Owen was only half-undead, so that means Saradomin isn't a monster. He's a normal guy who lacked proper guidance in the past. However, his alignment with light and good suggests he had a hero of sorts that he admired.

I'm not sure what the rules are on necro'ing in these forums, but I'd rather bump a relevant thread than make a duplicate.

The above post makes an excellent point about humans revering gods. I'm wondering if it's a part of human nature to revere power itself; Oreb pointed out that Teragard humans thought the strength of their souls was equal to their devotion to a deity, so perhaps it was a "power draws from power" belief where being close to a powerful entity made humans feel powerful, which explains why humans in Gielinor tend to follow whichever deity they believe is most powerful (Guthix as the world's creator, Saradomin as a conqueror, Bandos as a warlord, Zamorak's philosophy of power, Zaros maintaining control over an empire, etc), something that strictly contrasts why other races follow deities (Armadyl is a pure savior figure but not power-hungry, Seren advocates peace, other races believe Guthix is peaceful, etc). Even V's ascension to godhood is analogous to Saradomin's, meaning the Barbarians just did the same thing as the Teragardians.

With that said, humans aren't the only ingenious race, and many races are almost perfect analogues to them. Dwarves quickly became industrial, Elves had crystal singing that they made cities with, and Cave Goblins are the most scientifically advanced race in Gielinor to date. I'd even posit that Zamorak wouldn't have stolen Zaros's power if he didn't have an excuse, so he likely waited until the other Mahjarrat wanted to rebel before leading a coup; this slice of honor may be why he respects Daquarius so much.

One thing that really gets me about Saradomin is that he seems more prone to suicide than Guthix, yet he hasn't committed it. Guthix's death probably got to him; I think Saradomin liked him. Perhaps Saradomin wants to find someone more naturally virtuous than himself to inherit his power; this would explain why he takes direct interest in people like Owen, as he may be looking for a successor.

Yes, he's got many human characteristics, does that make him essentially better than others, or more flawed?

The fact that everybody fights for or believes in what they think is right for them, and that eveyone is much different in their beliefs is human. That we punish or kill those who oppose us by refusing to convert or speak out of turn out of arrogance, and a misplaced sense honour, instead of cooperating by agreeing to disagree is also human. Recognizing to have the temper of a child is very human and commendable as well.

Also gotta give Saradomin credit for not being a coward unlike many others, he's always stood up for what he thought was right with the strongest willpower against all odds throughout all the ages and against all the gods he's fought. Not once do I think he's ever backed down from a good ol 'battle. Too unfortunate he's not very tolerant when it comes to others' opinions and POVs and often decides to take those away by force.

Thanks for sharing your views guys. And thanks to Mod Raven for chipping in too, I appreciate it. :)

I think that while most species will desire power, each one is likely to have different reasons for it. Humans are in some ways insecure and want it to appear strong so they can draw courage from it. Mahjarrat seem to pursue it for survival, due to the rituals instilling a culture where the weakest get sacrificed and their power gets shared among the survivors. And the Bandosian races I believe pursue it for pleasure and the glory of battle. As Bandos said in Bird and the Beast:
"To get what we want, we have to be strongest."

Armadyleans on the other hand, I don't really think they desire power, or at least not in the same way that most others do. Their culture seems to be one where strength is drawn from one's fellows rather than oneself, as shown with Abbinah as well as their afterlife. If an Armadylean were to seek power for themselves, it would likely be out of a wish to protect the rest of the flock. The same could be said for Serenists as well.

I believe there's merit in that view, but there are definitely exceptions. Some of the Guardians (the Corporealists) seem to think that Armadyl is a supreme being whose "tears are the morning dew" or something, meaning they equate him as being part of Creation, a mirror of the power they believe he wields. Don't forget the Iorweth Clan either, who chose to follow Seren's more power-hungry side in a bout to obtain complete rule over their people for their own satisfaction.

I've always thought that Teragard is a totalitarian society with draconian laws and punishments. The people are cold and uncaring, and the Magisters control everything.
