So now that Saradomin is playing an active part in events rather than being essentially a background detail of his church, we as writers have to choose how we approach him as a character. We could:
1) Sweep the "all is not as it seems" under the table and decide that Saradomin is in fact perfect and good and always does the right thing. (Arguably we went a bit too far in this direction with Guthix.)
2) Decide that Saradomin is a villain who has been tricking everyone the whole time and have him turn out to be a monster.
3) Make Saradomin a complex, multi-faceted character who handles different situations differently, has consistent motivations and behaviours, and like any of us tries to do the right thing but doesn't always succeed. Sometimes when he fails it's due to his own failings rather than the world preventing him.
As writers we'd always prefer to do 3 for any character, especially the gods who are so significant to the story. I think a lot of the time there's an assumption that only categories 1 and 2 exist, and player opinion of gods swings wildly from 1 to 2 as each new revelation is revealed and it's either a good thing or a bad thing.
C'mon, Percy. You were the reason I was able to retrieve this quote in the first place.
