It is only now, with hindsight and the end of the series that past actions are put into their proper context. Back in Branches of Darkmyer we had to gain reputation to continue the quest. This consisted of rather nefarious deeds, And some outright butchery, before an alternative was put forward by Jagex.

Not all would be Vyres made it to their illustrious ranks, as quiet a few devolved into the mindless beasts of the haunted Wood. In fact considering the industrial scale that people were being turned into would be Vyres, I would say a large proportion failed to make the grade. And no way is a funky little Salve barrier going to make them better. They're gone...

So for all of you who visited that jail full of villagers....and horrified the jailers with their enthusiasm ... we did those meat sacks a favour. They were better off. And we saved who we could.

Opinions?

Did you abstain or go berserk?

I couldn't live with myself if I did that. I'm supposed to be a good guy; That's why when it comes to quest choices, I always endeavor to do the "right thing". And when it's not immediately apparent what the right thing would be, I spend time and effort thinking over it before deciding. Birthright of the Dwarves took me a whole weekend.

So no, I certainly didn't kill any of the prisoners there. And I don't think they were turned into vampires, either - Now when I pass through Meiyerditch (as I sometimes might when accompanying a friend doing the quests), citizens in Meiyerditch sometimes emote as they see me and say with yellow text how I saved their lives in Darkmeyer.

Meiyerditch, we don't actually know much about how they were selecting people for turning, but after the fall of Lord Drakan you can be sure hey stepped things up in preparation for the war to come. But the fact is those prisoners are still there. And the only thing you get out of them is that they are "glad we killed the vyre scum even if they were trying to help". I killed them because I thought there weren't other options for gaining favor...

Then coming back after the quests they talked about how they attacked the vyres despite the truce, so I killed them then too.

<3 Marvellous

There were no other options when it first came out. So there I was happily chopping them into shark bait, when the Guards start bubbling in horror and beg me to stop O_o

Good thing Guthixianism allows for such bout of insanity now and then ^_^

Ah, yes, so I heard. Luckily I didn't do it on release - I was waiting to get and read Return to Canifis first. And it was worth it - made the quest so much better. The novels + Branches combined gave me a lasting appreciation for the Myreque and Morytania, and birthed the most horrible forced meme to ever live (or unlive?).

I don't think when I need to act. I spared them. And Veldaban. And killed Ikadia because she wanted. Gave grayzag to the hands of black knights. I usually spare whoever I can.
NO
I do not ship ZamorakxZaros.
I follow them. And Marimbo, the best t5 god.

I thought about it, but I just wanted to put Asshurtes in his place, couldn't of been happier at the end of the quest.

Really though, no. I didn't. Surprising as it might sound I don't find joy in killing jailed up villagers.
