So... Whether or not you agree with what happened near the end of the quest, one thing I think we can agree on is the fact that there were some lore drops in this quest. And I'd like to present some of the big ones here so we can discuss what this might mean for the future.

Lore Drop #1: Erebus. Erebus, as it was described by Azzy, is like THE afterlife. A place no one has returned from.

Lore Drop #2: Mah's Egg. Someone tainted Mah's egg, which led to her deformity and abandonment by her sisters. However, Azzy confirmed it wasn't Wen that tainted it, but someone else. Someone with the same magic as the black stones that Zemouregal used.

Lore Drop #3: The Hatching Process. Not much to say here, except the current elder gods have to touch the eggs when they're ready to hatch in order to hatch them. Also, once they hatch, the new elder gods immediately start draining the life of everything around them.

Lore Drop #4: Shadow and Light Voices. So the end result of what Sliske did to the World Guardian at the end of Sliske's Endgame finally comes to light. Whether this is all Sliske can do now or not remains to be seen. At the very least, it'll add a bit of comic relief.

Lore Drop #5: God-Summoning Ritual. Another minor thing, but perhaps something worth talking about? After all, how exactly did the ritual work in contacting Saradomin when he was on a completely different world? And could the other gods do something similar?

Lore Drop #6: Sir Owen Sonde. Another minor thing, but at least he's returned, and he's not for Zaros. It's possible we'll be able to work alongside him in the future.

Lore Drop #7: Ga'al's Observation. Ga'al Kot is at first scared of Trindine due to her not having a soul and being made of "anathema." Trindine, in response, mentions the Shadow Realm likely having rubbed off on her. Does this mean the Shadow Realm and shadow anima have a connection?

Lore Drop #8: TokHaar and the Elder Halls. The TokHaar are very clearly loyal to Ful. Is it too much of a stretch to assume they might fight for her if things came to that? Especially if they knew we knew the location of the elder god eggs?

Lore Drop #9: Professor Soran. Possibly minor, but at the Wizard's Tower, someone wrote about what happened to the World Guardian... including things normal people shouldn't know about. The only Soran I know of is the emissary of Zaros. Will he play a bigger role in the future?

Lore Drop #10: The Restricted Engram (part 1). Oh boy. Where do I even start? First, the Edicts were set up by using both anima from the Heart of Gielinor and shadow anima gotten from the Codex (aka, the Monolith). So, to prep for his death and the eventual fall of the Edicts, Guthix decided he'd put the same enchantment he used for his Edicts onto a mortal soul.

Lore Drop #11: The Restricted Engram (part 2). The only problem with using a mortal soul? He needed shadow magic to properly prime the enchantment. That's why Guthix seemed to work with Sliske. Guthix used Sliske's curiosity to prepare the World Guardian. Also, Guthix knew the cost of using Sliske would be his own death at the hands of Sliske using the Staff of Armadyl.

Lore Drop #12: Gregorovic. Old Greg here seemed to be able to hear the Shadow and Light Voices that plague the World Guardian. Minor for now, but could lead to something in the future.

Lore Drop #13: The Current Elder God Eggs. As Seren mentioned, the shadow anima from Kerapac's machine has started to make the hatchlings stir. And in theory, another burst of shadow anima or the death/destruction of a god or elder artefact could force the eggs to hatch prematurely.

Lore Drop #14: Veilinius/Sir Vey Lance. Zarosian agents infiltrated the Temple Knights and essentially took over it in the course of a few millenia. With the other "antics" Veilinius got up to, what could other agents of Zaros have done? What other parts of the world are secretly influenced by them, if not being manipulated by them?

Lore Drop #15: Teleportation Tricks. Probably a minor point, but still. When I did the quest, I interrupted the ritual. If you don't, however... Apparently Saradomin can teleport the crown back onto his head. Yet Zaros steals the crown from him the same way. Is it just a bonus to the crown, or the use of god powers that allowed this?

Lore Drop #16: The Monolith. Zaros clearly stated that claiming it is his next goal. Also, Azzy said that the next time him and the World Guardian meets, it will be as enemies. What exactly is Zaros planning to do with Monolith? We'll have to wait and see.

...And I think that's all the major (and some minor) lore! Anyone got any theories about what we learned? Ideas what might happen next? Either way, I know I'm looking forward to whatever comes next... even if it is war.

Perhaps the reason why Azzy said we will be enemies is because Zaros' plans for the Monolith (aka the Codex) involve a threat to our powers as World Guardian, our life, or both. Should be interesting...

Exactly what I was thinking, for whatever reason he sees us as a threat and wants to cut us off from our WG powers by severing our connection to the Codex.

As I suspected, Zaros is nothing but a backstabbing, treacherous purple dishcloth.
I will protect Gielinor. Zaros has no love for its people.

My thoughts are more that he needs the Codex for his own purpose that isn't directly related to us, except that we are gaining power from it so we may be in danger as a consequence of that. But perhaps he does see us as a threat, who knows? Only time will tell..

I'm very curious about the (non)obsidian black stone... Apart from controlling undead Avarrockian heroes, it can apparently kill the eggs of primordial beings that have 120M crafting xp from Stealing Creation. So it's Karamjan, and related to necromancy. Incidentally, the Kharazi Jungle was terrorised (to what extent?) by Nezikchened, an evil black demon from the Grim Underworld. That might be related?

As for the Temple Knights... I'm rather miffed about this. They don't appear for almost a decade (we last saw them in RotM, excepting Sir Owen, who appeared in his own quest in 2013), we still don't have the rank of Acolyte, and then... this. And there isn't even any post-quest dialogue with Tiffy, Amik, Silif or Savant. :|

Well said! Zaros and Seren are a blight on this planet, together with their Elder kin. Guilinor has always basked in the light and warmth of the One True God!

Also an interesting thing to find out is that the Eye of Saradomin was the egg of Jas.

One question remains, has Saradomin been weakened without HIS Crown? Is he now a tier 4 God instead of a tier 3?

All interesting points, but the broader key is how the coming war opens and goes. It is fairly clear that after this massive and multi-pronged betrayal that we will be marching under Seren's banner, for no other Younger God can challenge Zaros on equal footing, and Saradomin seems ready to follow her.

Saradomin
: "There must be a way to stop him. It is time that Seren takes responsibility for her family's sins..."
Zaros
: "The necessity of my intervention not withstanding, our goals have been accomplished to my satisfaction. The design nears completion. We will reconvene near the capital ruins and claim the Monolith. I have one final preparation to make. We cannot move yet. By the time I am ready, Seren will be expecting us. Prepare yourselves for war."

Which means that all the old alliances count for both much and little. Will Saradomin and Zamorak put aside their age-old feud in order to prevent Zaros from becoming an Elder God? Maybe not, yet quite possibly too. Needless to say that Armadyl and his Guardians will stand with us, alongside the remaining Guthixians (such as the recently revealed
Crux Equal Knights
). Zaros has little in the way of armies, but his followers are each individually almost worth a host. Yet will the other Zarosians stand by him in the face of his supreme ambition? Little is certain, but it can be assumed that in basically declaring the World Guardian his enemy in the coming war that whatever Zaros' plans are would cause great harm to us or the planet itself.

This was a very fun quest. No combat, no stupid puzzles, just very good environments, colossal lore drops and relatively okay dialogue. Although I have to say, retconning the Temple Knights into "infiltrating Saradomins inner circle for 5k years" and Zaros' personal power above the other Gods was kinda stupid, but anyways.

I'm going to speculate about the relation between lore and gameplay in the future, taking the dialogue from this quest into consideration.

We're getting a new God Wars dungeon, called the "Elder God Wars Dungeon". This will likely not involve the Elder Gods participating in the fight personally. Although this time around Jagex said they're going to do things differently. Things are going to be more narratively driven and there'll be more to do than just mindless slaughter of minions and bosses.

- Zaros said they're going to "besiege" the Monolith. And he expects Seren to stand in opposition against them.

So one of the lines of conflict is drawn already. Seren VS Zaros. But Azzanadra clearly stated we'd be enemies, which probably means there's not going to be a Serenist boss, but the Zarosian faction is clearly defined as an "enemy" to the player.

- Keeping the above in mind. Saradomin said that Zaros ".. must be stopped somehow", and he also said that ".. it's time Seren took responsibility for the actions of her family".

This is clearly indicative to me that Saradomin will either somehow support or actively ally with her against Zaros. I also do not see a Saradominist boss in this new piece of content.

All in all, what I speculate we're going to get is something like a joint Serenist & Saradominist defense of the Monolith, which is besieged by the Zarosians. For this to work, there'd have to be multiple Zarosian bosses (if they're the only faction hostile towards the player in this new GWD3).

For this to be dubbed "Elder" God Wars dungeon, they'd have to be involved somehow, either as characters or theme.
