I know Broken Home is popularly theorized to be heavy in the Zarosian / Mahjarrat storylines, but there is a pretty big tentacled mass in this home that just so happens to be designed by our own Mod Wilson...

Is it possible that everything went insane under influence by Xau-Tak, or maybe it's avatar, the Skeletal Horror, given it's right across the street...

True, but the big tentacled mass in Broken Home is a Chthonian demon - they're like that anyway. And I think Mod Jack had more to do with Broken Home's story than WIlson, Ollie & Nexus.

Gotcha, still breaking into the lore business! I guess it's just coincidence where it's located then?

Keep in mind that it's also just north of the digsite, and thus right over the ruins of Senntisten. This relationship is further confirmed when we head down beneath the manor, and enter the ruins of an ancient Zarosian insane asylum (from which it is implied the Chtonian Demon escaped).

So the location is very deliberate, but not because of the Skeletal Horror.

So continuing on the train of thought that Karamthulhu are relevant, maybe these pieces of Hermit crab dialogue are relevant too?

Original message details are unavailable.
Hermit crab: Now you will give me fish!
Player: It doesn't really work like that.
Hermit crab: Curses! Is it because I'm not wearing a fishbowl?
Player: What would that have to do with anything?
Hermit crab: My friend Karamthulhu Pete says it works for him all the time.

Original message details are unavailable.
Hermit crab: You know, this place is too dry, but at least I don't have to worry about giant stone hands.
Player: Giant stone what?
Hermit crab: I can't tell you! Last time I tried I was locked in an aquarium by a unicorn-man.

The first piece of dialogue doesn't seem to reveal anything besides the fact that there's a Karamthulhu Overlord called Pete, but the second appears to be referencing something, but dunno if it's RuneScape related.

Anyway, at this point I'm pretty sure Karamthulhu are at least somewhat relevant to Xau-Tak - evil pirate related, aquatic creatures named after C*hulhu are too big of a coincidence to ignore.

Interestingly, the Karamthulhu overlord was one of the first summoning creatures created - the Karamthulhu item released with Rum Deal used to have a ton of follower code connected to it, so stuff like Hi-alching didn't work on it and said it was a follower. At one point dying with a Karamthulhu in your inventory even caused a Karamthulhu NPC to appear. This isn't really that relevant to Xau-Tak but still somewhat interesting I guess?

So the Amascut storyline is, as it stands, not connected to Xau-Tak.

That doesn't mean it will remain unconnected. And game mechanics that defy story mechanics are immersion breaking so I feel the mechanics behind how the slayer masks/dragonslayer gloves work deserve some explanation.

If they were not made with Amascut's goals in mind I feel it needs to be addressed how tasks are assigned and what causes these items to operate on the same principal. Just a line or two thrown in would explain something that would otherwise plague the minds of curious lorehounds for ...well probably forever because I doubt it would ever get a proper answer.

Not every single gameplay mechanic needs an explanation. We don't even have explanations stuff like why eating sharks in one bite heals our wounds.

An artefact imbued with the power of a god increasing your strength against monsters you're assigned to kill doesn't really need explaining, and I don't think anyone expects it to be.

ANYWAY, back on topic, have a list of content to look over for Xau-Tak references! These are the only things I can find that Mod Wilson contributed to that aren't already in the thread, but I am likely missing many. I crossed out stuff that I've looked over already, but feel free to take another look.

Mogre miniquest
Recipe for Disaster: Freeing Pirate Pete
Watchtower quest
Summoning
Let Them Eat Pie
Wolf Whistle
Death Plateau
Druidic Ritual
Bringing Home the Bacon
Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza

I'm sure we'll find something in Let Them Eat Pie that will change everything.

Bringing Home the Bacon its the answer! remember Eli had some kind of demon in the pig machine that asked him for blood and murder and creeeped the player out?and its involved in summoning too! maybe it is like the skeletal horror that is an avatar of Xau-Tak,but in spirit form and makes the pig pouches, and controled Eli into murder like he did to the odd old man that was controled into seeking bone pieces! and it probably gets power by killing and eating souls,as it instructed eli to murder alot of people(search its cellar more for poison and human bones) and pigs, and put the body pieces in the machine.

I think Lake Crystalmere is one of the 'series of locations'. Wilson worked on 4 Taverthope quests and the summoning skill, so it fits the 'major contributor' bill.

For starters, there's some quotes from betrayal at Falador:

Chapter 5: To the south [of Taverley], a great calm lake extended as far as he [Theodore] could see. He remembered the tales he was told as a child, of dragons that prowled its depths, away from the prying eyes of men.

Chapter 42: “But is it true, Castimir? Can the seers who live in
Kandarin really see into the future?” she asked.
“I am doubtful, Arisha,” he replied knowingly. “I never
actually visited them myself. But the fishermen of
Catherby seemed to believe it so.” The wizard smiled.
“But they also spoke of fish that could fly, and leviathans
big enough to sink the largest vessel with a flick of their
tail or a grapple of their tentacles.”

The first quote is a direct reference to the Lake, while the second quote describes sightings in the sea south of Catherby, which is very close to the lake. Besides the underwater connection to the pirate series, there are also key-words like "Dragons", "Leviathans" and "Tentacles"

The fact that the Lady of the Lake lives there implies that there's something special about the lake.

And lastly, and most importantly, the three items you have to get in Druidic Ritual - Untainted living water, Stone fish and leaves from Wandering wyrmwood - are all found near the lake. And what do they all have in common? They are all things which are alive, which normally shouldn't be.

The water is in a cave below the lake. Sanfew says "It is said that there is a spring of living water. I've some trolls have gone and mucked about with it." This is probably a reference to Magic Stick who (albeit removed) created the Gelatinous abominations.
I'm too Unaligned to have a forum signature.
