I don't want Xau-Tak to have any appearance at all beyond vague interpretations. In true Lovecraftian fashion looking at it should make you insane. -
I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

I believe our World Guardian-ship can yet again come into play here. If Xau-Tak does indeed give off this after affect of Insanity it's done deliberately and with divine power, which would easily cause the insanity we've witnessed so far, and of course be nulled if tried to be used on us.

I'm thinking much like Zaros and Seren's aura of Loyalty and Love.

Lovecraft did for the vast majority of the time keep the big bad threats out of the limelight, but I remember there was that one singular instance of a man witnessing a rise of some sort, in an ocean somewhere off the coast of that place.

I don't want any sort of long drawn out conversation with Xau-Tak, I truly want him to remain this inexplicable unfathomable unanswered question of a God, but I want to "Witness" him.

I dig that Xau-Tak is more like a weird perturbation of nature than a real entity , y'know? It's been referenced as a "god", but I really think that's a misleading way of thinking about it, going off Mod Wilson's statements.

The Skeletal Horror? That upcoming boss, The Ambassador? That's the sort of thing it has to communicate through. Or through feelings. Sensations. Nightmares.

Remember the acid trip we got to go on during Lord of Vampyrium? Graphic effects like that - and surely wilder - are probably going to be what we actually see of Xau-Tak.

Speaking of seeing Xau-Tak, I think Sliske's unawareness of it, plus V's extensive wandering in order to ascertain it's existence, point towards its flying under the radar of the standard pantheon of RS gods. It would be not at all fitting with what we've scrounged up so far if, oh, this Lovecraft-esque, indescribable horror did battle with something as humdrum as Bandos . I wouldn't be surprised if even Seren and Zaros had only a vague notion of what "it" is, if they are aware of it at all.

The standard rose-to-godhood tale we keep hearing probably doesn't apply, either. This is something outside the design and purview of the Elder Gods. Maybe it arose from the collective fears of denizens of countless worlds, for instance.
Continual disappointment is the spice of life.

Maybe it was the dying curse of an elder god from one of the previous cycles. One that developed the capacity to hate the universe that it created, and yet, as the cycle died out, did not have the power to take out its revenge, and morphing with its own nightmares and something inconceivably powerful, immortal, but silent in its disdain, knowing that if it brought the new elder gods' attention to it, it would be destroyed.

Just a thought.
Either get lucky or grind trying.

I wonder if there will be more on Xau Tak when Menaphos releases from the pantheon gods.

I doubt it. The disgustingly hot and humid desert city probably wouldn't mix well with H.P. Ravencrafts probable Ocean based eldritch horror.

All good points. Also just wanted to point out, Sliske isn't unaware anymore. During Endgame he seems to have some knowledge of Xau-tak's doings and where abouts when he mentions him.
I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.

That's an interesting thought. Similar to how Mah unknowingly created her nightmares coporeal form. Xau-tak, the nightmare (horror) of a sentient dying elder god...
