Of course he was lying, why would you trust Zaros saying he wasn't lying? He literally praises every single faction during that sequence. Including Zamorak - the guy who he literally attempts to kill in Children of Mah.

At risk of evoking a particular Star Wars meme:

Zamorak shot first!

He said he couldn't lie while he was inside me, so I took his word.

I've done so until I noticed the contradiction.

Ah but what promises did he make? I saw none.

Rather, he just told you what he 'could' do, not what he 'would' do, or what he 'wanted' to do.

That's enough to get you out of a contract, but not enough to make the other part feel like they weren't scammed out of a deal.

Doesn't matter if he lied or not, I only helped Zaros to make him a more effective Elder Chew Toy. Hey, I'll need a distraction!

So, an older sibling can't get angry with a younger sibling who has done something to annoy/upset/betray him, and lash out with words? You can still care for someone but same mean things to them.

I'd probably stick up for my siblings right up until the point one of them stood before me with a weapon, with the intention of killing me. I think most people would react in this way.

This wasn't a minor spat (the way you put it). This was Zamorak thinking Zaros built his entire empire on lies, the one that really concerned him was Zaros promising to make the Mahjarrat race not rely on Rituals to power themselves. To put it in perspective, their race was already declining ('cause their death rate was higher than their birth rate), and Tumeken blowing himself up and killing most of them in the explosion didn't help.

Then somewhere along the way, he got the...*ahem* truth about the Empire, and Zaros' line about them being "glorified mercenaries" was the final nail in the coffin for him.

This was Zaros using an entire race for his own ends, and acting like they're nothing. No wonder Zamorak's angry.

Never said it wasn't a scumbag move. Just establishing that Zaros's statement that he couldn't lie to us (or we'd at least be aware of it if he did) still stands. That's fairly important in my opinion as truth (albeit misleading) is still more useful than outright falsehoods.

Sliske, take note.

The thing is, everything Zaros said was the truth, but it's the timing that can throw people off. Like with the pact Hostilius made; he tried to haggle Zaros, and ended up getting haggled himself.

I doubt Sliske can out-maneuver Zaros.

Zaros why you do this? T_T

I served you loyally all this time and you'll still lie to me? >.<
There is some justification in that Zaros' life was on the line; he was simply doing everything in his power to get you to help him, regardless of your past loyalties. Even if you were a 100% loyal Zarosian, the stakes were too high for him to just trust that you'd choose the dark simulacrum. He had to go the whole nine yards.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

The fact he thinks I can't be trusted after all I've done...that makes me want to sit in a corner, sigh and feel forever depressed. I get that I'm not Azzanadra, I don't have centuries of service behind me, but I did prove myself when I helped Azzy restore the underground temple at the Dig Site and when I sided with Zaros in The World Wakes. The fact he'd disregard all that like it didn't exist, well...it really grinds my gears.

I'm not the only Zarosian who's annoyed at that. I can't really fault Zamorak for being pissed off when he found out Zaros only saw him as some mercenary, in his mind, where Zaros (most likely) couldn't like to him no less.
