I'm not saying death is the only way of dealing with it. What I'm saying is that death is a much, much better way of dealing with it than any possibly alternative. The dragonkin can definitely be killed. Whether they can be cured at all is unknown and involves either a lot of patience or dealing with an elder god who doesn't think you should exist.
