Well the elven soul did make a me feel a bit of remorse (trapped forever in that chest). Guess there indeed is a bit of dark side in us slayers. At least I did have the morals to abandon Menaphos miniquests that asked me to kill rowdy slaves (for which the quest npc's gave no reason other than: just because).
Yes I might slay and capture the soul of an elf, but even my character has principles in that it wont kill helpless slaves =p

Nobody is going to bat an eye if we slaughter Abyssal demons, Dark beasts, or anything really on the Slayerdex list. Nomad used specifically human souls, that was the issue. We're.. as far as I know.. unable to collect souls from the level 2 men and women we see wandering around Lumbridge.
So we're really not doing anything wrong.
We can capture:
-ogres
-goblins
-avianse
-vampyres
-elves
-I'm pretty sure something on the list is human. Haven't gotten that far.
And it specifically states we're capturing the soul, preventing it moving on to the afterlife, and using magic to regenerate it so we can stab it to death over and over.
The Adventurer is Guthixiain in nature. Balance. We go good, we do the fuzzy feelies, we help people, we right wrongs. But there must be balance. So then we do evil that makes even the bad guys go running in to the dark screaming.
Either that or we're a highly functioning psychopath (there is a scale you know!)
Actually some people suggest culture and moral priorities can shape how people respond to killing in the form of the shock to the psyche. In old times it was glorified to kill in defence of your people, parades the whole nine yards. Where as today it's labelled as bad under any circumstance and broadly and significantly stressed, so the shock to the psyche is significantly more pronounced as it goes against everything they were taught. That is conjecture though, but it would explain the Adventurer quite nicely.
The purpose of adventure is to shine light into dark places,
Poke monsters with a sharp stick, Then steal anything that isn't nailed down!

Well, I have been capturing souls for the codex. And I'll even grab some additional ones to put in my little personal corner of hell I call my own personal dungeon
But I - or my Adventurer - have little morals and just do what they tell me. Kill 10 slaves? Yeah sure, why not? Something wrong with that you say? Can't quite grasp the problem, Menaphos reputation man, rewards! And a personal tormented demon to do a slayer task in peace. And some more monsters to help me get those champions scrolls.
What do you say? I am the monster? Just a matter of perspective really... that functioning psychopath angle seems to make lots of sense here.

Should note that technically, you don't
have
to do it.
You still have the Slayer Cape.
Exactly. You can stop at any time, decide that you've done enough slaying. You don't
have
to enslave the souls of sentient beings for your own amusement and convenience.

Hardly evil. The difference between us and Nomad is one of motivation; he not only wanted to empower himself (perhaps aiming for apotheosis?) but also to
create
a god. We, on the other hand, have no interest in using the captured souls for personal power, but instead are simply trying to make a Slayer menagerie. It's inhumane, I suppose, but no more evil than keeping a pet.
A good comparison I just thought of: when making Summoning pouches, we are essentially capturing a spirit from the Spirit Realm and forcing it into a small cloth pouch until such time as we see fit to release it (and even then, they are forced to do our bidding.) Are we evil for that?
