Going to give a top 5. Why? Well, why not?
5.
Defender of Varrock
A great quest, with a great ending: Varrock being destroyed by zombies! I'm fairly sure this is the only time we see destruction on this scale in the game, and I loved the growing sense of dread throughout.
4.
Blood Runs Deep
A fitting finale to a long quest series, the final battle was pretty tough, and it had some great memorable moments, such as the sight of the Fremennik armada sailing to war. And then there's the heartbreaking ending. Pretty damn good.
3.
The World Wakes
Fairly short and all set in one cave, but very memorable for the implications - the return of the Gods! - and the final, tragic scene with Guthix.
2.
The Chosen Commander
Truly the finale we deserved for the Dorgeshuun series - Zanik was brilliant as always. The final defeat of Sigmund and HAM could have got its own quest, but instead it served as a great addition to the finale, ending with a boss fight that while not too challenging, took place in a great location, and was memorable. And I'll never forget:
"Well perhaps you're half right. Perhaps we can't win. But we can fight."
And no.1...
Salt in the Wound!
An epic finale with one of the most memorable boss fights in the game's history. It wrapped up all the... no, hang on a second...
The real number 1 is, of course,
While Guthix Sleeps
.
I think of it as the Empire Strikes Back of RuneScape quests. First off, it's absolutely amazing - lots of travelling and not confined to one place. Also, the villains win. Lucien gets what he wants - the Stone of Jas - and it sets everything up nicely for the finale: in this case, the underwhelming Ritual of the Mahjarrat. In addition, I'll never forget the Wilderness Temple scene, with the deaths of some of the game's best characters. Truly unforgettable, and most definitely the best quest in the game.
Honourable mentions go to Monkey Madness, Desert Treasure and Dream Mentor.
