Just a theory I figured I would toss out there, is it possible or fathomable that an Elder God could restore life to one who has died?

They can create life from nothing so life they could restore? Could this apply to mortals they find "worthy" of returning to life and were killed or ones that proved in their lifetime they were beneficial to the planet, anima, universe etc.

Could this at all possibly apply to divine beings? Guthix? Although it seemed he was accepting and welcoming of his death, or V who did many heroic deeds on other worlds and ascended to godhood but as a hero God not as one seeking worship or followers but always had the greater good of the world he was on. If anyone proved or can prove humanity deserves to go on it is him who started as a simple mortal just as all of us.

But this thread isn't about V or Guthix, I merely state the question Can or Would the Elder Gods bring someone back to life?

I think Lethalintent is right.

Could they? Yes. Perhaps even they need a tool like the Wand of Resurrection if a person has been dead for a certain period of time, or has managed to have been revived before.
Even Saradomin was able to revive Sir Owen.

We also get into how exactly are they reviving the person in question.
For all we know, they take it literal and make a clone of sorts of the person, instead of bringing back the real deal. So now we have Zanik 2.0 instead of Original Zanik.

But to Elder Gods (at least up to Sliske's Endgame), life is an accident. Not intended.
We should not be here.
So why would they revive something that they consider a mistake?

I think there is one other thing to consider in the whole "could vs should" discussion:
The other Elders.

How many Elder Gods have died before the current revision?
They didn't do anything to revive Mah when she was stillborn (or not fully hatched)
There is no evidence they did anything for the other Elders who might have perished along the way.

You could interpret it as they weren't fully aware of the concept of death.
They might have had reasons for not bringing the others back (competition for anima, what might happen if there was a zombie Elder, it could have cost too much energy for little net gain like as the dead elder comes back at Seren's tier and the donating Elder is dropped as low ... thus they aren't really "Elder Gods" any more and can't build worlds).
Or perhaps they were fully aware of the concept of "death" and accepted the passing of their fellow Elders.
Or maybe, they just didn't care.

But whatever the reasons, too many eons have passed to do anything.

Can an elder god revive a mortal?
Probably. It would likely take some fragment of their power to do so (like what Bandos did with Zanik).

Can an elder god revive a god?
No. When a god dies, there is no soul left to bring back to life. The best the elder gods could do would probably be pretty similar to what Seren says about remaking Eluned. They could likely make a copy of them and imbue it with the memories, personality, abilities, etc... of that god, but it still wouldn't be the original.

I disagree with your former argument. I think that since they are literally the creators of anima, and since souls are Anima returning to the plane, they would be able to do it as easily as snapping their "fingers".

Beyond that see Lethalintent's post above.

I try to think of it like this: blood (the soul) is largely water (anima), but has some impurities that make it different from water. As such, there is a noticeable and measurable difference between blood and water.

However should one place a drop of blood (a single soul) in a swimming pool's worth of water (all of a plane's anima), one would be hard pressed to then separate back out all the components of that blood from that pool of water. You may be able to detect the blood (if you happen to be a shark), but separating it back out is going to cost you significantly more to do.

That being said, the amount of an elder god's power that they'd need to revive a mortal purely by their own power would likely be an incredibly small portion given they have a much larger power supply than Bandos did.

I still remain unconvinced that even an elder god could revive a god (though they could replicate them).

But yes, the elders would likely be unwilling to do any of this (but that's why this thread is asking if they could rather than if they would).

Now don't feel down there, some of you. I would foresee such delight as having grasp of elder revival in your hands to bring couple of long lost souls you liked better alive to talk with you briefly. Yup, just briefly! I would rather continue my rest than remain grumpy awake again...

They would never, even if we proved that mortal life was precious enough to keep.

The only way to keep the universe's anima in balance without each revision is through life, death, and reincarnation. (At least, I believe that is the case, though we've obviously not yet seen the Elder Gods commit to that solution.)
