Excellent post. You've probably articulated every thought I had, and didn't yet properly have, of the lack of quality or consistency with a lot of lore elements, better than I would've. It was actually enjoyable to read through and at no point felt overly pretentious or nitpicky.

I didn't read everything, but I agree with all that I read. Excellent points.

One thing to note though is that OSRS remakes RS3 quests way better than it makes original content. A Kingdom Divided was infuriating from a story perspective. Hopefully when RS3 finally gets around to Zeah, they can do it better.

Also, I wish they had used Wintertodt as Wen's GWD boss–I think it would have made a lot more sense.

A couple of thoughts.

I think Death of Chivalry is still a great quest. I don't think it's fair to say that the quest has aged badly simply because Jagex didn't get around to releasing a sequel quest. I know they had some rushed dialogue about Saradomin's and Sir Owen's quest to use the wand to try and bring back Centaurs in the Battle of the Monolith mini quest, but you never know, they may still release it one day.

As for what you said about Bandos. Not all characters have to have good and bad qualities, it's ok for a bad guy to be a bad guy sometimes. Bandos was an evil character, he enslaved races or killed them, he believed in survival of the fittest and War. I know in real life 99.9% of us would never support such an ideology, but in a game where people enjoy the role play aspect of it, there is nothing wrong with them having a Bandosian character. He doesn't have to have a redeeming quality for people to want to follow him, they can follow him because the opportunities his presence might have brought etc.

What realistic good qualities could they have given "The God of War" anyway? sometimes a villain is just that.

I don't think there is a problem with Dungeoneering at all. I actually think it's a bit sh*t that people criticise Jagex for making a "Mini game" and not a skill. They added a huge piece of new content to the game filled with lore and characters and rewards, a huge expansion and all people could do was complain that it wasn't a skill (by this they likely mean they can't AFK it) To Dungeoneer well and efficiently and maximise XP in and of it's self was the skill. Nothing wrong with having a skill that encourages players to actually engage with the game and other players instead of another AFK skill.
Love the Lore and the RS Gods!

The points about Bandos are fair purely from a role-playing perspective, but from a lore standpoint (the World Guardian thing), I stand by my statement in saying that having the option to side with him doesn't make sense. The role of the World Guardian is to protect the world - Bandos would gladly see the world burn as long as people are fighting and killing each other over some twisted 'survival of the fittest' idea.

As for Dungeoneering, I had more points to make than the whole 'skill/minigame' thing, and I maintain that its many annoyances (certain luck-based elements, and such) do not get better with age.

I still think Death of Chivalry is a good quest in itself. It's just the ending unintentionally set a lot of people up for disappointment. However, if the scenario Sir Owen describes is how that plot thread was always going to be resolved (with the centaurs being a plot cul-de-sac that would have little relevance to the overall Sixth Age storylines), maybe it's for the best. I don't know.

I planned to read this and I actually agreed with "Salt of the Wound" section but as soon as I reached the stale "dungeoneering is a minigame" rant, I stopped reading and I have no intention to read further because I honestly can't believe that after 12 years, there's still this overly stale rant going on. I was already fed up with it in 2010 and seeing it 12 years later, it only irritates me more to see it. That's where I draw the line because I can't take anyone seriously who still labels dungeoneering as minigame. And seeing "Plague's End" and "Sliske's Endgame" on this list which are both among my favorite RS quests, maybe it's better I don't keep reading.

Lore became a mess when the 6th age became a thing. jagex had to deliver content attractive for new players so they destroyed much of what we were used with in terms of lore by making the player a demi god that saves the day. Many years ago, to hear the term ''mahjarrat'' was, in most cases, an endgame thing. After having truly great adventures, such as WGS, we are now able to meet a god and do a quest for him right after we create an account. I wont even go into detail on how man NPCs call us World Guardian without having completed TWW. Lore was a ''grind'' and it was normal to be that way, it had a sense of evolving and advancing into it by doing quests or lore related stuff, but being able to buy your way to max cb by Treasure Hunter and going after the gods themselves just after you made an account sells better to the public. My greatest lore/quest regret is the way the Myreque quest series were destroyed with the last, utterly stupid, last quest in the series, The River of Blood.

I agree with God Dragan above me. I like the Sixth Age, but it destroyed every bit of storymaking. Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better you would need to complete the 5th Age quests to gain access to 6th Age servers. It would exclude the majority of players, but the timeline would have been preserved. RuneScape is a mess now, full of anachronisms. Nothing to see here.

Most of the old 5th age lore involving Zamorak doesn't mesh well with where they took his character. I didn't mind that he was cartoonishly evil but it really clashes hard with attempts to portray him as some revolutionary fighting for freedom. They try to brush it off as anti-Zamorakian propaganda but the black knight base you can find him preaching in is riddled with blood, skulls and slaves. Signs of torture and slaughter riddle most of the places Zamorakians have been in. The Zamorakians that developed more constructive versions of his philosophy that's actually capable of coexisting with others are outliers who came about in his absence as people began to forget what the gods were actually like. I find myself wondering what kid of conflict there'd presumably be between them and the more violent and militant Zamorakians with the advent of the 6th age.

What does Zamorak think of Iban proclaiming himself as his son and all the messed up stuff he did in the underground pass? What lore relevant actions does he approve or disapprove of his followers doing in his absence? Is he still the one responsible for that whole situation with Rashiliyia and the undead ones in Karamja?
