Finally finishing my first raid I noticed a few unusual details. And so begins the theorycrafting of...

Xeric's Future Plans: Where is this headed?

The drained crystals outside, combined with the Dark Journal dropped by Olm indicate that Xeric was there to do experiments on the crystals there, and the Olm was the guardian of said crystals. He then used the magic from them to do his experiments which now fill those halls.

Yet all signs indicate that Xeric is back now, why didn't I find him there? By all accounts the place was abandoned, mostly full of ex-treasonous generals, drained crystals, monsters, and dead caretakers. Overrun. And the book indicates that the doors opened by...an earthquake? The monsters don't even burst out to attack under any sort of coordinated leadership. It's like Xeric has changed his goals.

Take note of the end of the Dark Journal:

"I am truly awestruck by the power that our lord now wields. If we were to return to Kourend, as he originally planned, I have no doubt that we would regain our former dominion over the kingdom with very little effort.

However, while our lord remains as secretive as ever - in fact, he has become more so after the treachery of our former followers - I sense he has a new plan in mind.

Perhaps the throne of Kourend has become too small a trophy to satisfy the ambitions of Lord Xeric."

Now we come back to the very beginning: Client of Kourend. The mysterious possessed Veos, almost certainly by Xeric , wants an update on the status of the kingdom. Most worryingly, he checks up on The Dark Altar , the one of which the Unstable Altar was a mere pale replica. The one channeling the powers of blood, soul, and death. The one surrounded by an entire district, the Arcaeuus, practically made of magical, dark crystals.

The next target. Enough power to...

And reflecting on The Ascent of Arceuus, his plans are already in motion. We use a strange orb at the Dark Altar at the behest of "Veos's Client" (a single use teleport beacon, like the one from Devious Minds perhaps?), then wouldn't you know it, someone shows up there and plants a device that disrupts the power of the Dark Altar to such a degree that one of the Arceuus citizens dies. As if we needed more proof, the device found closely resembles the Dark Relics found in the Chambers of Xeric.

All very interesting. If you need me, I'll be musing on why the Memoirs book has a different symbol float over your head than the Xeric Talisman. One is obviously Xeric's logo (seen on his altar in the Lizardman temple), so what's the other one?

The first snippet in months of additional information, from, where else, the humble gnome child:

The father lives on. Alas, he's not the man he once was.

Linking into my existing theory on Xamphur being King Kharedst IV, this reinforces that he is still alive but changed. I had previously asked "whose grave is this?" with the rose, and I think we have our answer, because it sure doesn't look exhumed. RIP, Rose. She was right, I don't like the ending.

For future wild speculation on the off chance any of these relate to Xeric and the surrounding continent, here's the rest of the gnome child lines:

I don't have much to add to this little thread as of the announcement of Kingdom Divided. They've been quite tight lipped about the details.
