Thread updated with images included. Do you think all skeletons in the wilderness are lore related and "tell a story" or not? Eg. In the boneyard you would find a dragonkin skeleton, there is also one in the unlabeled ruins aswell north of the boneyard which is also south of demonic ruins. I've also taken several pictures of wilderness skeletons with the words "ancient beast" in their examine. They all face the edicts sword mysteriously plus are still very intact somehow. This obviously tells a story so do all skeletons in the wilderness have lore relevance such as references to "ancient races" or not? The bones with the "reptile" examine are probably wyvern bones.

Wilderness volcano archive:

"Dragonkin":

"The remains of an ancient beast" archive:

Unknown ruins and location?:

I personally think the wilderness would have great quest potential if it wasn't a massive big piece of land concentrated on only pvp + risk of losing items you worked hard for(which nobody is interested in anymore). Lots of third age lore is undisclosed.

Most of the skeletons in the Wilderness likely come from the moment of Forinthry's destruction. This would explain the presence of so many races' skeleton as well as why Dragonkin would be present (though why they died remains a mystery, sinc they should have just gotten stronger when the stone was used).

Some skeleton face toward the Sword of Edicts as it lies in what appears to have been the epicenter of the blast cause by the Stone of Jas (hence the appearance of the crater). Guthix likely chose this spot to begin construction of his Edicts for two reasons. First, because all of the major players in the God Wars were there. And second, because the source of the damag to Gielinor's anima would be the first place he'd check.

The ruins are generally the remnants of the Zarosian empire, however some of them are of a more recent origin (black knights, attempts to recolonize the land, etc...).

Is it possible that the Wilderness Volcano was originally a Colosseum/arena before the god wars tore apart all infrastructure?

As for the skeletons did you have a look at the photos? Take for example the 3 headed beast with a very tall skull. Howcome you can't find out about many creatures that would match the skeleton? Also interestingly the elder demon skeleton was removed from demonic ruins in the graphic update, the river remained the exact shape but all the lava replaced the water somehow.

How can skeletons last so long after thousands of years unless the RS lore overscaled the time?

I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. The volcano didn't exist before Zamorak made his big bada boom. Based on its location in the center of the WIlderness. the shape of the volcano, and what we know about the God Wars, the volcano appears to be the impact crater that resulted from the explosion (explosions exert force in all directions, including downwards, after all).

As for not knowing about what creatures created certain skeletons, we still don't know about most of the minor gods that participated in the 2nd and 3rd ages (ex: if it weren't for his interaction with Zaros, would anything have been written about Loarnab?). It's not exactly absurd to recognize that a large number of species may have gone extinct since the third age without our knowledge.

And on the topic of the skeletons lasting so long, it could be a result of the continent having had it's anima connection severed. Think about it, little to no plants grow there and there's relatively little other organic material available to support decomposers. Equally so, the Stone of Jas's explosion (given the nature of the Stone) may have transmuted the bones into some other, more durable, material.

Two dragonkin bones exist in the wilderness as far as I know/from what I have seen. That means two dragonkin died. One is in the boneyard and the other in the unlabeled ruins south of demonic ruins, north of boneyard as I said earlier. Why are they so far away from the detonation site? And what caused the amounts of bones in the boneyard? Some kind of big battle similar to the upcoming ROB one?

it's the wilderness... quite possibly everything that normally destroys things like that can't live there either or is slowed down immensely
how long do you think those dead trees have been dead? I doubt it's likely that occasionally a tree grows up and dies when full grown over there [#0MGFV81HT] said :
Ive been thinking that the Dragonkin only showed up around the end of the war, when Zamorak was cornered by Saradomin, Armadyl, and Bandos. Zamorak was using the stone while that was going on, and I think the Dragonkin were on their way to stop him, but they were killed in the explosion.
you will read what happened to kethsi and you will realize that would only have made them stronger

What are your thoughts anyway btw on what the 'ancient beasts' are by their skeleton appearencest? Long extinct races mostly? Also that big spine + ribcage next to the 'dragonkin' skeleton had an interesting examine text but can't remember what it said. Weird 3 headed creature especially which does not look like a reptile?

I would guess the destruction of Forinthry did more than simply annihilate the region, more like it caused some sort of nuclear/volcanic winter. Wildlife is sparse, flora is unable to flourish and any remnants are literally fossils of an old era. Only post-destruction did dark lifeforms make it their home (slayer mobs, bandits, rogues, undead).

The Wilderness clearly is just that, a desolate wasteland. Anything that surfaces is a relic from previous ages. Particularly why 'One of a Kind' was so enjoyable, it wasn't just a quest, but a field-trip history lesson. Take a peek at the lore behind Necronium, it is quite interesting, even if it isn't in-game/canon yet.
