Sailing has been the worst idea for any skill ever. It feels like a glorified construction skill. Exploration would be more interesting, with the use of ships and such to get from place to place.

Sailing is just a terrible idea all around, and it does not sound fun.

Which parts of this design of sailing make it the worst idea for any skill ever? What parts make it not interesting? What parts make it seem like a glorified construction skill? What parts do not seem fun?

your post would hold a lot more weight if you can reference the specific mechanics outlined in this thread, otherwise it comes across that you simply saw the word sailing and threw out your preconceived notion of sailing rather than reading the thread.

I looked at the little april fools "sailing" skill joke and it seems useless to have in rs.. But i see the way you describe it and of course it's better. But let's say they did do sailing as a skill.

Don't you think it would take years to implement? Because they have to make it a skill that can basically go on till 99 without it being boring and repetitive with different adventures etc.. and think about the new islands/places they have to make etc.

I can't really make an estimate of how long it would take to implement this design of sailing.

I think the most time would be needed to create the navigation map interface as well as the whole system of boats. That would probably also take up a bit of engine, testing and graphics work. After that I think it would be fairly simple to just make new islands, since they can just use current content for resources and plop it into a simple little island. If the island involved whole new content, then of course that would take longer. But I think one of the biggest advantages of this design is that once the initial mechanic is in place, there's pretty much no limit to the amount of new islands that could be added, and it wouldn't add any bulk to the interface.

As to whether it would take years to implement, I can't really say. Then again, something as huge as Zeah is possible, and indeed coming, so I wouldn't rule it out entirely purely from a development point of view.
