Difficult to say. Artisan hovered about 60% and that was a skill I saw quite a lot of negativity towards, so I'm not sure if sailing could do better.

On the one hand, sailing has quite a lot of strong supporters, but on the other, quite a lot of strong non supporters. Then again, I have the feeling that a lot of non support comes from people having a pre conceived notion of sailing. Perhaps if it could be better explained the almost limitless and universal benefit sailing could bring, it could swing it somewhat.

Still, stranger things have happened. A few things I'd never have imagined passing a poll, have done. I think the main question is whether Jagex would allow sailing to go to a poll. Going by their bizarre (and as yet wholly unjustified) exclusion of sailing from the skill PDC, though, it might not be likely...

I can but hope. Thanks for the support.

ask yourself 1 question: if put to a vote in old school runescape, do you think it would pass? my answer would be most definately not

however, the other question would be, if put to a vote in runescape 3 would it pass? i wouldnt be able to hazard a guess

conclusion: it would be more likely to pass in runescape 3, but would not pass in osrs

hope this helps, but i really do love the idea and the time put into this

That's what people said about the GE, too, yet here we are.

Jagex should learn from the mistake that was their last PDC for a skill and poll sailing.

Wow, the passion is definitely here for this idea! I support having Sailing, however if it's implemented in any way it should be a minigame and not a skill.

Same exact thing should've been applied for Dungeoneering on RS3. Reason being is if it's a skill people will feel more "forced" to do it per se, vs something that should be totally optional and fun. I'll admit I really want Sailing in general because: fan of pirates, ships, being out in the waters etc. I really would rather be sailing this time vs doing Player-Owned Ports again where everyone else is sailing but you lol.

The idea is great and the OS team listens so the update could be implemented well (with enough supporters) to make it into a poll. Once passed they will have the next round of questions broken up into pieces from blogs etc. like they've done with GE and other bigger updates in the past. I think the most important thing again is that it should not be a skill if it has any chance of surviving a poll. :P

Oh lastly, this sounds really silly, but one of the Valentine's Day rewards from RS3 was peg-legs for both legs. I want this just because of the sheer silliness and to troll people with them heh. It was especially funny doing agility courses with them. They should allow the same 'Walk the Plank' emote RS3 had as well to add to it. Definitely still have one peg leg for either leg rewards as well.

@Ellinger

Thank you very much for your kind words and support!

I do agree that sailing would probably get more support if it were a minigame rather than a skill, however, I think it is important that sailing is a skill otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

That's mostly because sailing (as a stat) is kind of needed to differentiate between player's abilities and for the concept as a whole to work.

Without sailing as a stat, how, for example, would you:
-Have different unlockable tiers of seas, boats, and resources
-Have dangers be less effective against more experienced players

Both of these concepts are pretty integral to the design as a whole, so if it were a minigame there would still have to be a way to determine how one player can be better than another. And to be honest, I think it's just easier and more straightforward to make it a skill, especially considering the scope of it.

It's not as if it's a self contained content like dungeoneering. It's across a huge amount of the map, and has a huge diversity of possible content, and its addition would certainly bring out a whole new dimension to the game.
