Bot Suggestions:
1. Post a stick listing common suggestions and why they won't work.
2. Players need to be more involved in the bot-stopping process. What I think would work (though I'm certainly no expert in bot-stopping) would be to institute penalties that are less severe than long term bans and so require less proof before punishment. Instead of ~100% proof of botting these punishments could be doled out automatically after, say,
x
reports for macroing, at least one report from a player mod, and automated profiling as a bot beyond some threshold of certainty (in particular, the player must have less than 20 or 30 quest points in order to be profiled as a bot).
3. And what could these punishments be? For a small amount of time (e.g. a day or a week),
a) Pickaxes and axes would all function as if they were made of bronze. Mining bots are the worst because, in addition to their effect on the economy, regular players can't compete with them (in particular new players that can't use rune yet).
b) I don't know why CAPTCHAs aren't used anymore (they still seem to be quite common on other websites). Give bots a CAPTCHA before they are allowed to log in or access their bank account (and make them solve it every 10 minutes).
c) To stop brute force password attacks, hashing algorithms are made to be slow. Why not do the same for suspected bots? Increase the time it takes to drop items, pick up items, access the bank, etc.
d) Cap their trade. Personally I would support all free players having capped trade (based on quest points and total level) for up to a week, though I'm not sure if this would pass the polls.
e) IP bans.
f) Dangerous randoms. What was the problem with these? I've seen many bots killed by muggers and dark wizards.
