Should one want to cause lighthearted grief in Castle Wars for the laughs, one may mine the underground rockslide for incoming players to die under a barrage of falling rocks.

While this thread is in (brilliantly written) fun, it actually serves to bring up an important point: OSRS needs noobs to become diverse and vibrant. After all, what's the point of having wasted God knows how many hours to get to level 122-6 without a cadre of cow killers hounding you for free stuff?
Addendum: players on this thread, as elsewhere, have chimed in with commentary about the current so-called 'No Exp Waste' culture in-game. The way I see it is simple: facing the facts, RuneScape only currently holds a small fraction of the mainstream popularity it did 8-10 years ago. Those players who remain are, in large part, some of the game's more tenacious and committed players from the peak popularity period. Naturally, they largely take the game very seriously, to the point that it becomes less a leisurely recreational or social activity and more a competitive commitment.
What will ultimately determine how the game fares in this regard is how many new or casual players can be drawn in in the coming months, so as to render the aforementioned demographic an elite few, rather than an increasing majority. This will ultimately be what is best for new and seasoned players alike.
There Is No Substitute
