If I can imply what I'd love to from this post, then JaGex may actually listen to its members for once. Of course, at the opposite end of the spectrum, it could just be a PR post to make us feel better.
In any case, I feel that the game has really been ruined by microtransactions, and that, even though JaGex says they'll never sell gold or xp, it doesn't matter. The game isn't about making that much more money, microtransactions, or whatever.
The game is about running it the way the players want it to be run. I understand that as a company, JaGex really needs to make a profit to survive, that's rather obvious. What can be done about this is really very simple though:
-Raise membership price.- I realize it's not exactly a popular thing to do, but if you'd have asked the players, perhaps in an online poll, whether they'd want microtransactions like this or $1-2 more a month in membership costs, I think most people (or maybe just myself, who knows...) would prefer a larger cost in membership to avoid annoying microtransaction messages and pressures.
-Reduce JaGex staff.- It's the cold truth, really. If you have lots of people making lots of new improvements and updates in the game, you need exponentially more people to enjoy it. both unfortunately and fortunately, this is exactly the case. RuneScape has grown immensely, which is good, but not enough to warrant the huge staff over there in the UK.
-Realize it's not about profits.- RuneScape is enjoyed by many hundreds of thousands worldwide, and I have a hard time believing that JaGex really needs all the extra microtransaction profits. If, as a company, it does, though, following the other points made should really help out.
WE DON'T WANT OR NEED ANY MICROTRANSACTIONS. WE DO OUR PART BY PAYING TO PLAY, DO YOUR PART AND HELP A DYING GAME.
