There's a large difference between buying bank spaces and buying XP and gold and stuff like that. There are plenty of bank spaces for members, an extra handful, while nice, aren't necessary or even all that useful, because in the end it is a clutterbug's toy. It lets me have my ring of duelling with 2 charges sit right next to my ring of duelling with 5 charges, and my green vambraces hang out right next to my green spiky vambraces and my entire collection of gnome cocktail ingredients.
I will agree, of course, that having more items in your bank means that you can be more versatile. But you can't tell me that there's not something in a completely maxed bank that isn't useless, and if you threw away that, you could replace it with a useful item, like rope or cake tins or buckets of ectoplasm. In fact, to be completely honest, I find myself not having just the right item far more than I find myself having just the right random item for the job. For me, more bank space would almost be a disadvantage, to some extent.
I have absolutely no doubt that Jagex will come out with something useful in the near future. And I have absolutely no doubt that it will cost nothing more than the normal membership. And if there's a good deal of content that gets added to the game, I also have no doubt that Jagex will increase bank space with no extra cost. Purchasing bank space is a completely optional thing that does not significantly alter the game, and as I said earlier, I don't feel a shred of betrayal. I will continue to be a loyal member like I have been for years.
