I remember a long time ago, Jagex promised they would never provide advantages to those with more real life money than others, that they'd never be able to buy their way in the game.
Now, this cosmetic stuff doesn't violate that entirely, but the SoF certainly does. Jagex, while I appreciate the last decade of gaming you're provided me, all the good times, the friends, the countless hours clicking on Agility obstacles and fishing (perhaps not so much those last ones), recently you've been making some very poor choices that, whilst potentially lucrative in the short term, will serve only to harm the game in the long run. How many minors have already gotten into trouble for sneaking their parents card details and buying an exorbitant number of Spins? That number is only going to increase, and it's only going to harm your reputation.
Don't do this, Jagex. Don't become just yet another Freemium game; You had something pretty darned unusual with the freeworld/members split, actually preventing paying members from just stomping all over your free players. But if somebody can just buy X number of spins, win that 200m GP, then buy their way to 99s, well... it's the same problem in a different format. On a purely theoretical level, once they've gone as far as to spend money to buy spins, is it really that big a mental leap for them to make to go to buying GP directly from farmers?
Now, I don't mind the occasional bit of cosmetic stuff - I actually quite liked the concept of the Loyalty Store - but make it so that the currency used to buy it doesn't necessarily have to be purchased.
