Sorry but how is this a bannable exploit? This issue was fully on your (Jagex mods) behalf because you didn't think it through. I just see this as a very poor attempt to fix your own mess that you made.
Maybe next time think stuff through more properly...
I also love how Jagex does the bans this late to pretty much avoid backlash untill monday.

Ok, I hate bug abuse but I'm sorry Jagex you are a complete joke on this.

You advertised on your own newsfeed to watch wazzy's stream. On his stream he told everyone how to do the trick. How on earth do you justify banning people for bug abuse who were told to on a stream that you recommended??????????????

Let's not even go into the fact this same 'bug' (mistake by jagex) first happened under exactly the same conditions 6mths ago, which is why people knew about it. and you did absolutely nothing to fix it.

Banning players for 'abusing' bugs is fine, but banning them because you f**ked up is quite something else.

This response by the mods is so patently ridiculous I came to the forums just to add my two cents.

You banned people for an "exploit/bug" that WAS NOT either of those things. Two random, separate events happened to occur at the same time, both of which are hard coded to happen in the game. Then some people saw the opportunity and decided to take advantage of the discount and event together. That's -not- exploiting anything but an opportunity that was legitimately presented in the game.

These people bought keys legitimately, acquired oddments legitimately, and bought the keys with oddments legitimately. There is not a single thing that they did wrong.

It's obvious that you guys saw you missed out on microtransactions and got spiteful and banned some people for it, even though everything that they did was completely legitimate. If some people way over-used this method, it's still not abuse because there was no bug or exploit.

An exploit, by definition, is an action that takes advantage of a bug or flaw in the code to reap unfair benefits. Both of the things that were "exploited" in this case were hard-coded, recurring events that have been happening for years without issue. This is on you, not the people that took advantage of it.

As one clan member said, "It's like a shop setting out free samples or buy-one-get-one sales and then getting mad when people take advantage of the event."

Banning people for Jagex's own mistake?

Sounds like somebody didn't do their job properly before releasing the update.

Very disappointed in how this is being handled.

Why would they care? People bought TH keys to take advantage of the promotion, the accounts get banned and Jagex keeps their money.

Greedy.

JAGEX PUNISHING PLAYERS FOR BUYING AN ITEM THAT THEY PUT ON SALE IS WRONG!
The only exploitation going on here is JAGEX EXPLOITING PLAYERS!

Think before you act jagex!
There was no bug, there was no exploitation by players!
They simply bought an item that YOU put on sale!

You offer oddment & TH services to your players, the players use those services, many even purchased with real life currency.
These are all legit actions...

So if some jagex numbskull decides to put a massive discount on TH keys in the oddments store without doing the correct calculations...

THATS YOUR FAULT JAGEX!
JAGEX provides these services, JAGEX advertised a sale, JAGEX conducted transactions where they took peoples money in exchange for a "product", & now JAGEX want to take it back & punish & ban people for using a service they provided just because they made a mistake in the calculations...?

ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY JAGEX
You put it on sale because you wanted people to buy it..
Guess what, they bought it!
What a surprise!
YOU CANT PUNISH THEM FOR THAT!

The ACCC (Australian Competition Consumer Commision) would have a field day with this shonkiness...

Eg- In Aus if a company worker accidentally advertised something as 75% off instead of 25% off, well guess what JAGEX, too sad too bad, the company is bound by law to hold up their end of the deal or they are REPORTED AND FINED FOR FALSE ADVERTISING

YOU CANNOT GO BACK ON THAT DEAL AND YOU CANNOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THOSE WHO TOOK THE DEAL!

JAGEX THIS IS YOUR STUFF UP!
STOP PASSING THE BUCK!
STOP BLAMING PLAYERS!
STOP LYING!
THERE WAS NO EXPLOIT!
PLAYERS WERE PURCHASING AN ITEM THAT YOU PUT ON SALE!

This is absolutely pathetic and appalling behaviour from JAGEX, I'm disgusted, i'm disappointed and im flat out ashamed at the way JAGEX has handled this situation by taking ZERO RESPONSIBILITY, opting to shift the blame on to players instead.

Its not moral, its not ethical, THIS IS NOT OK!!
You should be ashamed JAGEX
CHECK YOURSELF...

What would happen if I bought keys with oddments at 50% off and then kept those keys stocked until the next promotion to use them? Would it still be considered abuse?

This was a poorly thought-out release of promotions, and an even worse response. Jagex presents as a professional company, but they look like amateurs after winging their way through this mess.

I can't see anything wrong with stocking up on keys, just like I can't see anything wrong with players taking advantage of what happened here. Without the hotfix, the overlap in promotions would have ended at reset time anyways.

-(seems that this thread is for a separate issue in January, however I can't find any other relevant news posts to reply to)
