the site is very slow..... nearly takes 10 seconds to open the page after clicking the link. O_o

I mean they did say they're still optimizing it and haven't made the full transfer yet I thought?

Well..... if they did, then they didn't do it here. Clearly it is not fully transfered yet I guess as when I search for an item it says nothing found....... Seems RuneHQ is better at that.

LOL... that is on the Wikia, I never go there, I read here.

But it seems to me this whole Wiki thing is again just another prestige grab by elitist so they can show off the Wikian title. Why on earth should there be an in game title be awarded anyway? Looking at the list of people who got "awarded" this title it reeks like brown nosing.

So guess I am out! ,,|,,

I really don't get it.

First you tried to run your own wiki, which failed horribly.
Then for a moment I thought you supported runescape.wikia.com.

But now you're trying to create your own thing again.

Original message details are unavailable.
There are currently 190 articles and 39 files on the RuneScape Wiki.

I don't think this one is doing so well, if what you said about it being up for 10 years is true.

Either way, I, and probably a lot of others, are gonna stay with the runescape.wikia.com, because that has always (mostly) worked.

The guys and gals who run the Runescape wikia want to see it wither and die because they do not want to remain beholden to the Fandom company. They're the people who provide the tools fans of various franchises use to set up their own wikis. The problem with them is that they do not treat the users of their service well and they don't make fixes unless massive abuses occur.

I have seen this problem crop up on a lot of wikias/wikis dedicated to novel, game, tv show, and movie franchises. If the Wikia people want to impose a universal change you have to suck it up. Furthermore, they make it impossible to delete a defunct wiki. Hence why you often see a defunct wiki competing with the preferred fansite on search engine lists.

I'm sorry to say this, bro, but by continuing to use the old wiki you are doing exactly what Fandom wants. Your continued use of the old site gives them the justification they need to continue abusing their user base. The people behind the RS3 and OSRS wikis have enough support and manpower to force a defunct wikia from ever appearing on a search engine again. Considering how active Jagex is with patches and updates an unedited site can become outdated and useless quickly. This is a blow a lot of people would love to see dealt against those pricks at Fandom.

(continued)

The old Jagex-run Runescape Wiki was a failed project intended to get back at the Runescape wikia. At the time, Jagex didn't see eye-to-eye with fan sites and wanted to have absolute control over Runescape. Unfortunately, this ended the existence of the old Knowledge Base without attracting a sufficient number of users away from the Runescape wikia. Obviously, this failed hence why that wiki had to be shut down.

What is being done with the new wikis is different because Jagex is working WITH their fans not against them. Furthermore, Jagex is providing funds to help the editors at the OSRS and RS3 wikis break the stranglehold Fandom has over its user base. Unless you have a good adblocker you're guaranteed to be inundated with ads while using a wiki. To my knowledge, no other creator or publisher of a given franchise has ever provided this level of support to a third-party fansite.

The only other Fandom-based wikis I can think of with sufficient manpower and support to break away are the WoW wiki and Wookiepedia. However, they're not doing anything about Fandom's tyranny and are just towing the line. The RS community has by far one of the most robust and informative wikis out there. A successful break away from Fandom would be the black eye they richly deserve. Please don't ruin it.

Edit: Yes, I do find it a bit sleazy that only a handful of people will be awarded the Wikian title. However, given how so many people use RS wikis it comes as no surprise they have so much clout with Jagex. Just don't give stroke the egos of the wiki editors and things should be fine.

Seems fine and done for good reasons. But I like the old design better. While a font change is probably good, it's new execution is less. Too much line spacing, full width of the screen so it's like reading a landscape printed book. With paragraphs often displayed fully on one or two lines from ltr. It reads on bright white backgrounds (tiring eyes faster especially because the game is not bright white) with a boringly default looking navmenu on the left.

Also the search bar isn't centrally placed and has grey text on white background to further diminish it's importance or easy find contrast. If I type "wise" in it, I expected this new version to suggest to me both the article "wise" the invention perk and "wise old man" but it didn't.

Oh and I don't know why you can't just delete all the wikia content next month to help move over? For graphical nostalgic reasons? Take pics maybe?
My ideas dump thread
