Jagex did not sell the shares it was the American investors who sold their shares and we had MXT for years even when the yanks ran it. MXT was added to the game when 75% of the accounts left after EOC came out.
Ok, let's be entirely honest here and not post half assed 'facts'.
Jagex was invested in (by Insight Venture Partners) in 2005.
In 2010 (when Andrew sold out) 2 additional investment firms gained interest in the company, with Insight gaining controlling interest at that time.
Jagex didn't "decide" (or make a 'fatal' mistake) to sell Jagex to the company in China.. the 3 investment firms made that decision.. because THEY OWNED jagex.
MTX was added BEFORE the loss of players from the evolution of combat (with the very first mtx being the flagstaff with the first Runefest).
The "yanks" NEVER ran it, jagex did.. they simply OWNED it (and incidentally had full authority to sell it to the highest bidder).
Bottom line is that a buck and a half is insignificant to the vast majority of online gamers (even gamers as an entire group, not just online gamers).
This is nothing more than an executive decision and while y'all are hammering on jagex for it, few have even considered that it wasn't these jmods in jagex that decided this price increase.. the Chinese company that OWNS jagex is calling all the shots so stop pounding on jagex for it for pete's sake!
