To followup on this. It looks like the bonus xp is being used first. With 30 to 50k of bonus xp on a large number of skills, I will never get to the double xp weekend. It would have been better if the bonus xp was not used during the weekend. IMHO.

If you have bonus XP, you gain XP as 3x until it's used up. After that, it goes back to 2x

for herblore I always buy the amount of pots I need without any boost like, wells/xp boost armour. so you always have more pots then you need, nobody wants to buy more pots during double xp weekend,

and the most important tip I can give is have fun and keep grinding
