I left the game a long time ago, just barely get back into it, and this is what happens.

If you guys want to see what can happen to RunEscape, take a look on steam at the game "Fallen Earth", which used to be even popular enough to have a retail release! It was then later bought by Gamers First as a cash cow, which sounds a lot like what is going on with this buy out.

Within a year there is a skeleton crew, the only updates after pre-developed content are mtx content, and the game slowly dies, and i mean slowly. It went from a rather large player base to what it is now. The most people I have seen online in YEARS at one time is about 200.

So long, RunEscape, you had a good run.

EDIT: I would also like to point out, Runescape is very far from this stage, but being that this is a 100% buy out, it really wouldn't take long for the transition. Just look at when IVP managed to get MAJORITY share holder status.

This is extremely disappointing news to hear.
I have been playing this game 12 years over many different accounts.

If you go through with this, Runescape will be destroyed, and for most of your player-base, this is our Child hood game!
(Guessing here so don't quote me)

One of the most successful and well-known MMOR**'s will be ruined.. Please do not do this!

It is the only game I play and I grew up playing it. After this deal has been made, gaming is basically over for me. Currently, I am not doing any activity in game that involves ores or mining and I'll get my clan to do the same.

Just please do not give up the ability to run and rule yourselves, Jagex. Please. You guys have a good thing going, don't let other people take over your game!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Jagex was taken over years ago.

Now it's just a commodity to be traded.

I'm yet to hear a logical argument as to why this is in any way negative.

Plenty of racist prejudice though.

It's not racial prejudice (OK, it's not ALL racial prejudice), some people are concerned about why a mining company that is posting losses is suddenly buying 100% (not just a controlling share, you notice - the whole thing) of a online game.

In the absence of facts from Jagex, it's human nature to fear the worst.

A MINING company is buying Runescape.
This mining company just lost TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars
Runescape nets a profit of approx. one million pounds per year.
Runescape is being bought for THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS
Do you think this mining company is going to wait 150 years to make their money back?
NO!
Do you think this mining company is going to try to use the game as a cash grab and suck as much out of it as possible?
MAYBE!

Time will tell.

The 2105 financial report isn't out yet. The "posting losses" was simply an outlook prediction for 2015, and the numbers have not been finalized yet. But the estimates were only a loss of around $55 million, for a company who have over $2 billion in assets, and a steady historical revenue of between $500m - $700m per year. They have had a net profit between $150m - $200m for the last few years.
