IVP bought Jagex in early 2012 right? Well, what happened after 2012? Oh yeah, loads of players quit and MTX started...
they bought jagex in 2005, not 2012
Correct, but what they probably meant was that IVP gained the majority share just before MTX were introduced.
They gained majority share holder in 2010
Incorrect.
By majority I mean 50%+.
Enough to, for the mostpart, pro actively manage the business with less consent needed from other stakeholders. It was 2011 when IVP secured a 55% stake in the company (when their previous share was only 35%.)

A lot of you need to chill out and stop jumping the gun here especially when no information has been made public about this by Jagex, no one has any idea what is going on and making assumptions about it is down right ignorant.
You all claim to love this game so much so put some faith into Jagex and actually understand what is going on before claiming how terrible they are, premature judgement makes you all look like know-it-all stuck up children.
I think my posts have been pretty neutral, but your post makes you seem pretty darn condescending. Does telling someone to "chill out" ever actually make them calm down? A lot of people have also posted various iterations of "
With the information we currently have,
I don't support this", which is fair enough.
As someone with a background in business and an interest in the game I'm really really really interested to know more details, but I know we won't get any pertinent information about how this deal is going down - even after the final decision has been made (whatever that decision is). The market is never characterised by full information.
Also others have questioned whether there is copyright law in China: there is, but as many are aware it is not well enforced. It is pretty difficult to enforce the copyright laws in China as a lot of the pirates are basically small business owners who can close shop and pop up elsewhere extremely easily. It is also not strongly enforced because the government in part realises that pirating brings in millions of dollars (tens of millions of yuan). This may or may not be relevant. We don't know what this deal would bring if it closes.

But yes, because the gaming cultures are fairly different, Asian servers (and hiscores) would probably have to be separate from the current Runescape servers.
I wouldn't mind this.
In addition to Runescape, I regularly play another online game as a paid subscriber.
This other game is about the same age as Runescape and has gone through four changes of ownership over the years.
It remains business as usual......this other game continues.
I expect the same would happen with Runescape.
What concerns me is a new owner might decide to move the HQ somewhere else.
The other game moved their HQ from the UK to USA and this did affect the staff (it didn't affect the game).
I can see Jagex HQ being moved to a country where labour costs are lower if it goes into Chinese ownership.
