The problem with that is the fact that China has NO copyright systems. If they get access to the source code, undetectable bots will be sold by the Chinese version of Jagex.
Um... why would Jagex sell bots for their own game, when they could just continue to sell bonds and treasure hunter keys to players?

Easy:

1. Make Chinese version of RS.
2. Monitise it to the EXTREME.
3. Sell bots and pretend they aren't from their own company.
4. Profit 2x.
They wouldn't profit 2x though, as someone who buys a bot is less likely to spend money on the game itself for bonds, promos, etc. Someone who can get level 99's in a short period of time by botting most likely won't stick around for very long either.

If anything, having a counterpart in China would actually be handy in dealing with goldfarmers coming from that particular region, as the parent company of Jagex could now take legal action in China, whereas it is currently quite tricky for Jagex to take legal action in China.

You do know that if the source code for the games are shown to ANYBODY in China, someone will bribe them into leaking it so that they can make bots for it.

There's almost NO copyright system in China. This is a bad deal and they messed up by not providing us with a counter-alarm to this deal announcement.
Why would anyone from the Shandong Hongda Mining Co. need a copy of the source code in the first place?

And it would be much more lucrative to start suing the goldfarmers in China for millions and millions than to try and nickle and dime a few users for some bots.

Brilliant! Don't you all see? Jagex doesn't WANT to be bought by this Chinese company, so they released the invention nerf and this right afterwards knowing that it would drive players away, making the game look unattractive from a business standpoint!

Not sure how they plan to get us back though.

Well if the company looking to purchase jagex was interested in how much cash it could get then invention was brilliant since bonds exist...

But i don't think jagex knew about the offer when invention was first thought up.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

WTaF!?

I saw this headline on GameSpot and thought April 1 had come early. A Chinese mining company, seriously?! This is low even for Jagex.

Be prepared for the game to revolve around the Mining skill...

I thought this was a premature April Fool's post at first....

It will be interesting to see what happens, whether this is publicity for the Mining and Smithing rework or otherwise.

You can't sue goldfarmers in China because of how their country works.

For example: US President Bill Clinton signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which basically allowed China to copy anything they want and sell it back to us in the USA.

That's what the 'cheap knock-off' products you see in stores came from.

Pretty sure that wasn't what NAFTA stated.

Unless you have the passage that states that.

This is some of the worst news I have seen in awhile. If jagex gave a **** about their game they wouldnt ***** it out to some chinese mining superfund, nothing good comes out of a relationship like this.

Jagex you really should of been seeking a partnership with Valve and gaining access to the steam platform considering Valve want to get into the MMO market.

Just a little heads up on how these chinese companies work Jagex, athey essentially remove he option of players making their own wealth and offer you mediocre packages in return for taking away your ability to acquire wealth and yes those packages can be purchased for a "reasonable" amount generally tiered ranging from $50 usd to $120 usd.

Love how your justifying "access to the chinese market" you really believe that bull **** runescape wont even be a flash in the pan in china considering they already have their own mmo's that are well established**

*** this is terrible news.

Look up NAFTA on w*kiped*a.

Here's a small part under "Intellectual Property":

"The North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act made some changes to the Copyright law of the United States, foreshadowing the Uruguay Round Agreements Act of 1994 by restoring copyright (within NAFTA) on certain motion pictures which had entered the public domain."
