This isn't the first mmo to have done something like this. I was just on EverQuest a couple weeks ago and traded an item you can buy from their shop for in-game money. People ranting about rwt, this is going to FIX a lot of problems with Runescape's economy and squash the bots/gold farmers. People that buy gold will still be buying gold, but it won't be from third parties anymore it will be from Jagex. Nothing has changed in that sense.
I knew they would eventually let us technically buy gold from them after awhile and profit, because it's Jagex. "The wealth comes from the prices chosen by the players" well yeah, basically you give us an item we sell for that money it's the same thing as people buying gold witih rl money. Truly the only way to stop the gold farmers though is by an update like this. As an analogy, You can try and squash each single ant with the bot problem day after day, or take away all of their food and make them all starve to death. Ok that's sad, poor ants
