"Hi, my name is Sam and I have been playing RuneScape for 6 months now. I love training combat, but some better equipment and armour would really help me. I want to buy Bonds and swap them for some ganodermic armour. I might finally be able to join my friends on a Nex run!"

According to Mods posts here, most of Sams friends probably bought gold to get that armour, and jagex didnt care. and they wont care now

The one and only downside to this is you're adding a much more efficient way for players to purchase in-game gold from Jagex. Simply buy bond with RL cash --> sell it on the GE. Quick, clean, efficient.

I'm honestly not boiling too much over that considering we've had that for months since the SOF had a convert to coin option.

Since you're unwilling to remove the squeal of fortune, this is a step in the right direction that managed to (as you've shown) benefit everyone except gold farmers in some form. Here's basically where my attempted argument against this update went:

Bob: Hi, I'm Bob! I'm obscenely rich and own 15 partyhats and a completionist cape! I'm very proud of my accomplishments, but now Moneybags McSqueal can simply buy gold to get an unfair advantage!

Moneybags McSqueal: Well sure, but now you , the legitimate non-gold-buying player have a way to obtain runecoins and spins with your vast wealth, that were previously exclusive to me, the premium customer! You can even buy membership so you're getting the game for free! You're getting significant in-game advantages due to your hard-earned effort while Jagex is draining me dry!

couldnt have said it better myself.
yes jagex is "selling gold" to people and letting them gain wealth from real life money, but if people wanted to do that they would be doing it with gold selling websites anyway. The rate really isnt worth it for most people anyway.
High level people ( who are the people mostly complaining about this it seems) get a much greater advantage, they get to pay for membership with gp.
All they have to do to play this game for free is to play this game.....

I'm starting to see what everyone else is seeing. This isn't going to curb gold farmers; if anything it will promote them! For example, players can now buy a cheaper membership with purchased gold than from the rs site itself. This is one of many reasons people will turn to gold-farmers. And deflation? Well that's not going to happen ... money isn't really leaving the game with bonds, just changing hands, like someone said earlier. And bonds aren't anything special anyways, so I can't see the demand being excessively high for too long, I mean spins, membership, and RuneCoins is all they can get you, and it's arguable cheaper to buy those things through the site anyways, direct. If anything these will bring MORE MONEY INTO THE GAME, for example, if someone buys 10 bonds x 8 spins = 80 spins and then wins 200m, this brings millions into the game on a daily basis! Way to go Jagex, nice way to inflate the economy !!!

Ontop of that, the charity option is a very large money sink everytime it's used, multiple people have already attempted to use it, so don't bother saying no one will based on your own moral standards.

You just stated people will buy them with farm gp now to pay for their memberships, that's a constant monthly supply of hundreds of thousands of buyers. Come on, think about it. Not only that, but quite a few players are already jumping at the option to now pay their membership, buy runecoins, and buy spins without ever using any of their money. They can just throw some rsgp at it that they'll make back in a few days in the same game.

And I know you didn't just seriously try to say someone is going to get 200m in 80 spins. You've got basically a million players getting 1-4 spins per day for over a year now in addition to all spins ever bought, and 200m has been won how many times? Twice? If you're going to make an argument, make some valid points.
When you poop in your dreams, you poop foreal!

Interesting concept, excited to see how it works out. Just wish it wasn't so akin to RWT, but since it is going on anyway, seems a good time to experiment with this.

The bothersome thing about this is that players can buy Runescape membership with money. So as long as gold-farmers offer their gold prices at a lower rate than Jagex, players will buy the gold from these gold-farmers in order to purchase membership. This would sort of mess things up, no? :P

Another thing...how will this affect Jagex's profits and membership prices in general?

In any case, thanks for all the efforts, really hope it works out - gold farming needs to go. :)

*Sorry, all meant sarcastically. The argument made is full of fallacy...*

Money is NOT leaving the game. Player A buys a bond from Jagex, sells it to Player B for 10 mil, who uses it for membership. Player A now has that 10m. It hasn't left the game. It just changes hands.

In this case, you are correct in saying no money left the game. Now if player B on the other hand wants to give it to his friend, he would have to pay a 10% tax (based on ge price) to make it tradeable again, meaning money (1m based on your price) would leave the game. So money can in fact leave the game. Probably won't happen too often though.

1.1 million gold farming accounts with a Runescape subscription, looks like I wasn't "making it all up" when I kept telling my friends that bot bans were the cause of the player base decrease.

Bit confused: Is GP buyable with this?

Umm...

There is one thing that was not considered.

That high number of 40% of people who have bought rs gold... That's going to go up; people will now feel free to buy rs gold.

Did Gerhard not consider that buying gold to gain progress is not a good thing for a game? Players don't care where the money is coming from; they just don't like the money. Rather than 40% of people buying gold from offsites, there will be an even higher percentage buying it from Jagex. Jagex has literally eliminated the only deterrent for the people that have wanted to buy gold but never were stupid enough to try it.
What does in-game wealth even mean anymore?

Your missing the fact that the only way people can buy these bonds for membership is if people purchase bonds with irl cash and sell them for gold on the ge.
There is no other way bonds can be introduced into the game.

Just remember how these bonds get into the game for you to buy them with gp to pay for your membership

I like this implementation. Cancels out a lot of RWT incidences where players would pay other players in-game currency to buy membership for them.
