Mark,
Aside from the foot wear fiasco, you did do an amazing job. I think the best decision was to suck it up and bring back free trade and the wild. Have fun in your retirement you old fart!
jk Good luck in your future endeavors you chub!
Peace and Love!

I'm going to be honest, and this may seem harsh...but it is necessary. As far as I'm concerned a CEO is responsible for the company and it's products, and the product thus far is less than satisfactory. Sure you've done some good things, but you've done some terrible things. As you've said, you've made a pledge to listen to the players and offer transparency...what happened to that with EoC? Hardly anyone wanted it, and over 150,000 people left because of it. I will be the first to say I like EoC, and it's a great system...but most members (the ones who pay for this product) said they did not like it and do not want it and you allowed it to go through, this was uncalled for and should have never happened. Instead, you shold have postponed it, worked on any bugs, then when everything is said and done you should have introduced it to us over a 3 month period and offered a beta open to f2p and p2p at the start of that 3 months that would last 5 months and upon entering the 4th month a vote should have been released asking for the opinions of all players as it affects everyone.
Honestly, I don't think you were an effective CEO, the choices you made were what caused this game to crash hard...I can see your vision, but the poor implementation was your downfall.
2009-2012 was great, you implemented so many good things for the game and made great choices...although the vision of new and better things clearly clouded your judgement and caused this mess we see today.
It's definitely time for a new CEO, and hopefully the right choices are made. I will say thank you for 2009-2012, but as of lately you've proven you're not the right CEO for Jagex.
Goodbye, and good luck with everything. I don't see you as a bad person, but the CEO position does not suit you well.
^ Best reply on this thread.
However, I'm not putting any faith into the new CEO because Mark chose it and, by what seems to me as favouritism.
Odd that I should come back to check the news just in time to find this farewell. I well remember being excited at seeing you come in, and what you
said
then struck just the right chord with me and many other honest, committed players of the game.
And then horrified to see the difference between what you had originally said, and what you actually did. At this changeover, I can't say that I'll be either reassured or excited about Pips taking the helm
.
However, I wish no ill to anyone, and that includes you Mark Gerhard. Good luck in whatever is next for you, and may you find easier subject matter that will allow you to more accurately spin whatever it is that you will be spinning, and a more receptive audience that will readily give you the adulation you have so clearly sought.
I already wished Mark well, but I couldn't agree more, especially with the part I bolded. Jagex as a whole has strayed far from their promises, and that is what makes it laughable in the MMO industry.
I mentioned this when the silverhawk boots announcement was new, but ScrewAttack did a "Top Five Free MMOs" some time ago. RuneScape was on there, but it was only number five, and as much as I wish it was higher, there's no doubt that it deserved even lower at the time. You, Mister Gerhard, should not make promises you cannot keep. That is exactly what you did.
That's really all I had to say, other than the fact that the haters on this thread have posted
multiple times just to make their whiny voices heard
...and that makes me
sad
. What, is RuneScape your waifu/husbando to the point where if anything changes you panic like crazy? It's just a game. Get over it...and yourselves. Even if it were to close, it's not the end of the world or gaming industry.
Oh, I almost forgot.
Oh, I already forgot.

Its kinda wierd, how anticlimactic MMG's leave was. I would expect to hear fanboys crying and haters celebrating.
Yeah. Its kind of a big change having the ceo of jagex just up and leave. The big boss steps down mysteriously and a new guy comes in. Will MMG's succesor be succesfull?

It made me sad reading about your retirement MMG, you deserve great things on your future interests and hopefully the future CEO brings cool things on the table.
