This is not the same thing at all - useless comparison is useless. Pay check rates rely on many factors (financially) and are in no way a "vision" of Walmart nor something used to draw in consumers. Jagex introducing microtransactions was 100% a choice - it was a vision MMG (and other employees, of course) wanted to pursue because they thought it would better the game and the company.

Actually it is. Jagex only sells one thing. Monthly subscriptions for the game. Micro transactions provide additional financial income (a factor I'm sure just like pay check in example) and draw their existing consumers to spend extra money on stuff that basically amounts to absolutely nothing. As the actual effect on over all game is minimal. Unless you start throwing 500-600+ dollars into the game. At that point you would have to be Bill Gate's child to throw that much into this game.

Most players left because of microtransactions. Now that Legacy is back, there's really no arguing this.

Umm proof about most players leaving because of micro transactions please. Also how does legacy factor into micro transactions? I don't see the connection.

RuneScape functioned just fine for a decade with a $5 monthly fee and no microtransactions

Yes and the 100 thousand bots that paid their monthly dues helped that very well. But what about when Jagex chose to eliminate a very large percentage of their income by removing bots?

Let's not forget we got more content and stable releases back in those days, too.

Again got to ask for proof. What more content? What stable releases? How does any of this have anything to do with Micro transactions considering the MTX team is only 2-4 mods Max.

There is absolutely no solid reason why microtransactions were implemented.

Actually there was. I explain already but you disregarded it.
I'm a big entropy fan.

All subtlety and nuance of a napalm enema

Quality over quantity, since September of 2013 we've gotten 4 grand master quests and a master quest.

Also, number of quests doesn't necessarily mean more content. We get spoiled with high level bosses (Which is what a large portion of the runescape community wants), new skills and minigames (that despite being quite fun, the elitest "what do I get out of it" notion that runescape has been infected by in the past few years prevails)

I don't know, perhaps the more content they promised would be delivered as a result of the twice-as-large development team they say MTX funded.

Also, as for quality?

Plagues End was a disappointment - the epic war for Ardy was like 6 soldiers fighting me.

Cave Goblin Final quest was not only a tad disappointing, but rewarded players with lower skills - because of the mechanics of the final fight, those with crappy gear and crappy HP actually had an advantage over their betters.

I have not been that impressed with the quality of quests either. Yeah, we sometimes get a Fate of the Gods.. But more-often-than-not I have been disappointed.

Not to mention our new skill, Divination, was such a disappointment that, when given the option to vote for which skill desperately needed a new minigame, Divination won hands down.

I gotcha, not every quests floats my boat either, but you completely failed to address the amount of time jagex puts into developing new bosses on the community's request.

Ok, I'm gotta head off. (class in the morning, you know the drill) I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

You had some pretty valid points, but it comes down to opinion in the end.

+ respect for being subscribed since 2006

Thank you for having a strong focus on bots and thank you for that 0 tolerance policy that has led so many to be banned!

I have fought against the gold farming menace as well, PKing bots, tagging their dragons and stealing the loot, closing doors in their way and more! Because I know that the company backs me up! My efforts have stalled and easily prevented millions of coins from ending up in gold farming hands. I was proud to do so because I knew we had a CEO that hated bots as much as I did!

Thank you for everything you've done MMG.

Thank you for coming in with no understanding of what Runescape was about, but with the arrogance to tell everyone at the successful company Jagex that they had no understanding of what business was about.

Thank you for promising to communicate more with players in 2009, then proceeding to communicate with them less.

Thank you for being the patsy of IVP and their relentless meddling that forced Andrew Gower to sell them enough for a majority share and leave because he couldn't take it any more.

Thank you for undoing Andrew's brave work to combat botting and goldfarming, in what was the first of many instances of pretending to listen to players while you did what you were going to do all along anyway, in pursuit of short term profits at the expense of long term integrity of the game.

Thank you for lying to us about the Wildy Back poll, first in claiming it was somehow fair to let bottters and goldfarmers automatically make as many new accounts as they could and have their votes count, and second for falsely claiming you could control the bots before the poll when it turned out you couldn't.

Thank you for claiming at Runefest "We broke the bots" when all you'd done was pause them, briefly. Thank you for in general trying to make yourself appear to be some kind of rock star, instead of just humbly getting on with making a better game the way your predecessors did.

Thank you for changing Jagex's view of PMods and players in general from a valuable resource in maintaining fairness and integrity in the game, to a problem to be managed and turned into a gang of cheerleaders that constantly said Jagex was right even when they were wrong, or face losing their crown.

Thank you for forcing many good Community Management Jmods to repeat your lies and deceptions to the players to the point where they felt they had to leave the company as soon as their financial circumstances allowed them to.

Now I know how people felt when they heard Adolf H. had died. Thank God he's stepping down. Sadly, the damage he has caused to one of my favorite games and company cannot be fixed for many years to come.

Anyway, here's to hopefully getting RuneScape and Jagex back to where it needs to be!

(Contact the Gowers, perhaps?)

Thank you for ignoring the pleas of PMods and players alike to stop gamblescamming and instead letting it run unchecked for 18 months, creating a cycle of hosts taking players' banks, and players buying their banks back from goldfarmers, and repeating, that turned (according to your figures) 40% of runescape players into cheats, and introduced such vasts amounts of gold to the game that the economy will still be suffering for years to come, and new players cannot hope to afford the inflated price of the best equipment.

Thank you for not punishing these 40% who were cheats because you were worried you would lose the income from them, and for not considering that allowing cheats would eventually reduce the total number of players because the game has become unfair.

[EDIT: Thank you for celebrating 200 million accounts as if it were 200 million individual players, and not the reality of most of these accounts being bots, as if it were something to be proud of.]

Thank you for famously declaring that microtransactions were a "stealth tax" and "death by a thousand cuts", giving hope to all of us that Runescape would remain microtransaction free and never be Pay to win, before betraying us all.

[EDIT: Thank you for always telling different stories to difference audiences.]

Thank you for declaring that since we all made use of the free spins you gave us, that bought spins were the most popular update ever and so had to stay because we players loved them so much.

[EDIT: thank you for introducing children to gambling with SoF, and simultaneously claiming it's not gambling because you always win, but it's not pay to win because you don't always win.]

Thanks for promising to never sell advantages on Solomon's store, then selling bank boosters, pets that pick up millions of gp worth of drops that would otherwise be left on the floor, and Wicked Pouches which should always have been a Runespan reward, but you just wanted more cash for your IVP masters.
