Why is the name I want not available?

You may be unable to choose certain names due to them being already taken or being blocked by our filter for being offensive to other players in the community.

When you attempt to change your character name you should be presented with some variations and alternative suggestions if the name you want is taken. In addition, there is nothing stopping you from trying to see if a different name is available before selecting it.

We have the check availability function before confirming your new name to help you with this.

During the last name batch release, I had experienced tremendous lag, which prevented me from changing my name at all for around 10min before it settled down.
Yet, some people successfully changed their names immediately at the time of release even though I had been online for 20min+ in advance.

So what determines who gets to change first? Is it luck? or whoever that has the fastest internet?

I just came back but what happened to some few worlds being full. There are no full worlds on Rs3 and only 1 full on Old runescape. And how does it always says 60-70k people online that's not right. There isn't more then 20k on at any time of the day. This game use to be in its prime when it was cheap to play and it was only the old runescape. There was 5-8 worlds full at good gaming hours. I miss these days and they will never come back. Pking and leveling is different now. No one pvp's like they use too and many people bot for leveling and don't ever get caught. This game needs to change to how it use to be before it's too late because sooner or later no one will play anymore especially if they have to pay.
