I don't wanna sound rude but I probably will anyway. Do people not read the article before posting? I also don't wanna make a fool of myself here but I'm pretty sure that there is NO mentioning of removing any accounts whatsoever. Freeing up their display name doesn't mean that their account is lost for all eternety, as all will be the same except that they'll have to pick a new (or their old on if available) name.
People are really dumb, agree with this 100%.

I don't really know how this will work out because there might be inactive accounts who try to log in after 2 years and then end up permanently changing their name.
This is a really interesting update. Looking forward to seeing which names are released but supposing an individual with a rare name logs in a few weeks after you've released their name (not knowing this new policy) will they able to get their original RSN back?
Exactly, I think this is a completely unfair and a stupid move. As like a lot of players, I am angered by this move.

I think the 6 months for a non member is a bit short.
Most inactive players who have lost membership and are giving the game a break sometimes come back to play years later. If they find their name has been forcefully changed because somebody else has it, then it may make them less likely to want to stay.
