This thread is for feedback on the new authenticator system. Please do not belittle your fellow game players because you disagree with their posts or think they are whining.

Yesterday, Jagex came out and said they were updating to a new security system and that you had to have a smart phone or they strongly suggested you needed a second computer to use this new system. They also did not provide any technical walk through for those of us who struggle with computer issues.

I do not own a cell phone, I do not text.
I do not own a second computer.

By stating this, I am not whining to jagex, I am trying to help them understand their player base. There are many paying members of this game who do not have the best of all equipment, use social media, or wish to be dragged into using complicated interfaces and new combat systems.

I hope that someone at Jagex will listen..........there is a portion of their player base that likes it simple.

Why are you removing jag protection for this other one when we all felt so safe with jag? most of us don't have them phones to use for account protection.. I think jag work a lot better for me and for others.. also I think you should of added a vote to this update instead of throwing it to are faces to get rid of are protection. my say in this keep jag don't get rid of it.. :@

well installing app was easy but something has gone terribly wrong.I did this:
Firstly download an appropriate authenticator app for your phone. Google Play store
When the app is installed, visit the authenticator page enter the long code to the right of the QR code into your authenticator. To test that everything went okay, enter the code displayed on your phone onto the RuneScape website, just below the QR code. get an error everytime. If you get an error, make sure you've entered the correct code and that your mobile is showing the correct time and date. It is the correct code and i have sync my date and time. IM confused now and the authenticator will not accivate.

Maybe everyone needs to learn to read.

Jagex has done some pr control and has updated their poorly worded opening update on authenticator change, informing us all after the fact, that we can use this without a smart phone. My point is that this update was not well communicated, was just thrown out there without proper information, help, or thought for their members who are less savvy players.

I am becoming very tired of Jagex and so many people that post on the forums, thinking the whole world has the very best of equipment and computer knowledge.

The best solution to this whole thing would be to leave JAG in place for those of us that like it, and add the new option for those who want/understand it. If, as you say Jagex, you are trying to look out for the average player, I would like to see the demographics that define your idea of " average". As near as I can tell, this is in no way, directed at the "average" anything. After almost 10 years of playing this game, it is my opinion that in a lot of cases you make changes for the sake of making changes. A lot of the things you have done in the past end up being poorly thought through, badly implemented, and completely unnecessary. ( the current situation being an excellent example) And somewhere down the road, you end up retracting said changes. So why not do the smart thing to start with and if you really think this is for the best, offer it as a choice/option. Let it prove itself to the community. And after a while people will change of their own accord. Contrary to your belief, we are not all drooling idiots. We can work things out for ourselves. The fact that you are making this game LESS accessable to the general population, screams elitest mentality to me. NO security system is 100%. And it doesnt matter what the reason is that a person might not w

Recently Runescape has given the players power over the game, why is this so different?
I think players should have a choice whether they want to use JAG or the new authenticator system.
I feel that this authenticator system will drive new players away. For people who have smartphones it is simple, when you go to a friends house or even to the library and want to take a study break, you just pop up the Ap* on your phone, generate a code and log in the game on the public computer using the code on your phone.
For those that do not have the phone, runescape will be playable only on their personal computer, unless the public computer has winauth or you call home, and ask your siblings to open winauth so that it can generate a code for you to be able to log in the public computer.

Three reasons why I refuse to use the Authenticator...

1: Because unlike JAG, it's protection is limited to 30 days.
2: Some people do not have smart phones or are not-so-tech-savvy.
3: ***ex, you didn't allow your loyal players to vote on this!
