Okay, I give up. I'm just going to suck it up and play RS without it. If my account is gone after this I'm retiring from playing this game and won't come back when I feel like it. I've spent lots of time on my account and this is the most highest account I've ever gotten in this game. I maybe sad leaving it and I took so much time and effort on it. Also, the money I used to get the membership is..........vanished.....wasted....I hate wasting my money like that. Oh well, what can you do? When, the game doesn't even listen to their players. *sigh*

This was way too complicated, it took me 2 Hours. to set up the authenticator and then finally log in. What made it so confusing is the fact that you have to download a strange program that I have never heard of before, I don't understand what those numbers mean that come up.
Also: How do I start winauth from my pc? It seems like i gotta downlaod it everytime In order to open the Application

Another Question: What if I regularly hop from computer to computer to play Runescape? I do not have a smartphone and do not plan on getting one as I believe it is a waste of money, does this mean every single computer I want to play on would need the winauth program?

JAG is actually less secure than the new authenticator. With emails potentially being hijacked by professional phishers, accounts were still at jeopardy.

This new authenticator, however, uses 2 step authentication. In order for someone to hijack you, they would need to steal your cell phone in real life. This makes the chances of getting hijacked nearly impossible for someone with the authenticator.

Folks who had JAG without using an email with 2 step authentication were still easy phishing targets for hijackers, because gaining control of the email account would enable the hijacker to easily gain control of the account.

The amount of stupidity in this thread due to lack of reading and basic logic is hilarious.

I am glad you find it amusing. But for a moment just think.... not everyone may be as computer literate as you or comfortable setting up new devices. There also are a lot of older players on here.

Years ago I was VERY computer literate, but as the years have passed a lot of things have become a lot more complicated. Just to show my age, I remember my first vcr player. we just plugged it in and set the date. The last dvd recorder i got I spent half the day going thru the manual setting up everything. One reason I haven't got a new phone is because my husband did and we still can't get it working properly.

Seems to be unnecessary complicated. JAG worked just fine, why fix it if not broken? Refreshing computer registration every 30 days is overkill. Even my bank in real life does not require that level of security for online banking...

mod slayer posted on the forum saying you dont need a smart phone and can use your PC ..which sounds like a great idea the only problem is it doesn't work.
it doesnt say anything on the article about being able to use pc ...it says android/google/windows phone app ..and nothing about pc

jagex needs to post a new article on how to install the PC/APP for windows 7 with step by step instructions that actually works...and a link for the program to download to use the PC/APP for windows 7


in the future when jagex releases new updates and new stuff it might be a good idea to make sure it works...it'd save the community alot of headache and hassle

Let's face it, it's more likely for a someone after your Runescape account to go after your online email account than your physical phone.

If a hijacker does gain control of your email (which you say is the weakness of JAG) then what is to stop them resetting your pass-word AND disabling the authenticator straight away.

Everytime I enter the code on my phone, the website says its the wrong code. Something is seriously wrong here. Either the code changes to fast or there is a delay on the website.

I'm using an iphone 4s and no my phone's clock is not wrong. Please fix this!

I don't think this is a good update, JAG works fine. The fact of the matter is that not everyone has or can afford a smart phone so what are these people to do? if you need a second PC to set this up then how are they going to do that? Resetting your authentication for the computer every 30 days is a lot, and i see no reason that is needed to be done that often. This is a rather poor update, maybe if JAG was kept as well as this is would make it better but removing JAG is not the right move, it deprives players on a low budget of good account security.
