It's good to have some "facts and figures" to show how the game is doing. However, I feel this news post doesn't actually tell me much of anything about Runescape's player community. And here's why.

Anyone who has taken a statistics class (which I have) should know one thing: you shouldn't/can't trust statistics. People should always ask themselves "What is a statistic trying to make me believe?"

I'm not saying MMG is fudging any numbers when making this post. However, he does leave things intentionally vague or undefined. At the very beginning, we are given a portrait of the "average player." However, MMG leaves out critical details. Namely, a definition of player and how many players there are. Are we talking about every account that currently exists? Are we talking about people who play on a daily, weekly, monthly, regular, occasional, or rare basis? These are just two out of numerous questions that could be asked in trying to figure out what kind of player he is talking about. Without an understanding of what the average player is or how many there are, we really can't learn much of anything about Runescape's player base.

Many people on this thread are confused about the quote "And despite rumours that everyone in RuneScape is very rich, the truth is only 1% of players have over 1 Billion GP in total wealth." Why? Because we have no idea how many players MMG is talking about. Even people trying to clarify for wondering people what MMG is saying have no idea what the number of players he is referencing actually is.

Until we can have a clear definition of what MMG means by a "player" and the exact number of said players, I personally won't have learned anything from this post or be satisfied by this "attempt" to answer the questions asked by others.

Edit: For the record, I've been playing since 2005.

But unfortunaly you are selling xp and that has caused me and many many others to stop playing the game. I will wait for the day you stop selling xp and will happily start playing again.
And yet you've had concurrent membership since before the squeal was put into the game and still it remains. Voting with your wallet, you're doing it wrong.

Hmmmmm or maybe I have a lot of prepaid membership? Man thinking outside the box would help so many people!

Enfey—

I see that you're 12 and can only infer things. I'm along way from "crying" about payscape. Sure I would love to see it be runescape again but all good things do not last. Congrats on showing off your maturity level :P

Since 2013 we brought a range of next generation anti-botting technology allowing us to detect all bots within hours with 100% certainty. We ban bots at random intervals a few days after first detection so that they never know exactly how they were detected.

I would find this part more believable if the system actually detected the same repeat bot patterns in locations.

I.e The Rc runners that go Daemonheim to an altar via home tele and back again.
I have also observed the same thing happening from locations such as Burthorpe and Edgeville (My assumption is it is based on the rune they are crafting)

They are inherently obvious as bots. A randomly generated Server Name such Irit 12 Sword. Always the same Wicked Hood + Bronze sword you are made to obtain during game beginnings.

So the fact these accounts operate for weeks on end despite every person and there familiars being able to identify and report these bots.. It does more than contradict this claim. It utterly dismisses it.

Either that or simply emphasises the bot detection program is severely lacking in basic pattern recognition.

I tell you the truth. If you spend all this time re opening an older version of the game like 07. And countless thousands of people want to play it. They want to play an outdated version of the game that is many years passed. Then you take a vote to form song legacy mode that brings back old combat style and that vote smashes through with a demand of yes. Well perhaps on all this updating you done something wrong and got rid of many things players once loved and did not want to change. On another thought your making a strong stride in player polls and choices. Do you have the guts to make a player poll to do away with micro transactions or perhaps your scared of the results that poll would bring?

So nearly an apology from the failed joke that is MMG for the crap of
EOC he brought into this once great game which had many worlds full
to the max of 2000 something i have not seen since EOC was forced
upon us, now his bonus from IVP has dropped he decides to point out
1 single thing that has been good which is or was good RE; Bot Nuke
which has failed miserably you are kidding nobody but yourself, granted
they are less active but they were never nuked they are still all over
For those of you who haven't been around that long 95% is his favourite
number that he likes to use as he also used this when stating that same
amount of players liked SOF and the buyable xp and gold it gives away
I Notice his players 'online' is as high as 1 year ago which is laughable,
go check your 'online' players from today and pre EOC then post those
numbers then everyone can see what a mess you have made of the player
base and a lot of whats left want rid of your buyable spins now keys which
you never address as this fills your fat wallet, and you want older players to
come back to a game where Loyalty to you is not now how long we have
played but how much RL Cash you can squeeze out of the better off players.
And before any smart ass comments are posted as to why i'm still here thats
simple i have 3 x 99's left to get current Craft 98, Divi and Dung both almost 97
i have never ever botted for 1 minute or played ridiculous hours like those top
3 have or do, which imo is very sad but if they are legit and not botting thats
up to them, but i do hope they were asked for permission for their playing time
hours were published for the world to see otherwise i'd call that a breach of trust.
Don't think that MMG cares about you as you'd be wrong he cares about YOUR
money that makes IVP shareholders and himself wealthy hence the 76 mil profit
last year, which i doubt 95% will go back into Runescape. :P
.And now the end is near its time to raise the final curtain.
Regrets i have a few, but i did it my way.

Proud 10 year veteran
Hate Botters and key abusers.

I bet if there was Revolution in the first place thousands of players would've stayed, including me. I seriously think Jagex was just too harsh with the EoC... players didn't like it cause basics have 3-10 sec cooldown which you have to keep spamming... combat isn't fun like that.

But I honestly think RS is slowly gaining back its popularity. Though I don't know whether or not I like the "bonus exp" factor.

I just can't believe the word of someone who said "90% of our members are enjoying the Squeal of Fortune on a daily basis and over 70% of our free players utilise the Squeal of Fortune daily too". Sorry.

Edit: Yeah yeah it's Treasure Hunter now, whatever, same crap.
