Seems Jagex is still building cross-platform expertise.

It's a real nice start.

Android and iOS-combo with chrome is a nice start, but that's the easy part.
(btw: I speak of experience, getting something to work properly on windows-phones will be a pain, especially when going to fiddle with drop-down menu's and such.)

jquery: understandable move.

One thing I really can't understand: why did you wrap the body of the web-app into an iFrame? iFrames are one of the most buggy things ever invented.

I like the general concept of the app. There have been many times that I have wanted to communicate with my clan/friends but have been unable to get online. This solves that.

One thing I have noticed is that if you leave the private chat tab and return to it, you have to choose which friend you would like to send a message to again. Would it be possible to include an option to have the private message automatically be in response to the last received message - like using the tab key in-game?

Thanks!

would be nice if you could swipe your finger across one of the sides and your friends list would show and then you could easily find the person you want.

Very nice update jagex, been waiting for somethink like this, for some time now.

However, i think it would be a good idea to remind players to look at the url for runescape.*** or jagex limited before entering there login details.

Also can you add it to the "community" section on the rs homepage.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Why use a WEB APP instead of using an ACTUAL APP. Release it in the App store. I'd hate to go through the hassle and click the chrome app or safari app to use this. It'd be more nicer if it was just as simple as one touch. I sort of had high expectations for this, but I'm sort of let down how it's not an actual app.

Seems like a good idea and all (havent tested it yet since i passed my data cap on my phone for this month) but why only chat? i was hoping to see much more functionality than that. Being able to play the game on a mobile device would be ideal, but i understand that is either not going to happen or still quite a ways out (in the meantime i use my phone's tethering to play RS on my laptop, plugged into an inverter in the car when on the go.. it feels unnecessary, itd be fantastic if i could just load the full game on my tablet).
Anyway, it'd be awesome if this app had some in-game trackers- for example, Grand Exchange tracker (it'd incredibly convenient to be able to check during the day if my GE offers have bought/sold) , Daily challenge/D&D tracker, Miscellania tracker, etc etc.

Oh, and +1 for making it an actual app.

My honest opinion:

+ Definitely step to the right direction, at last Jagex realise the existence of mobile computing platforms that the company had been ignoring for ages.

- Bloated, why demand for 1GB RAM and the Chrome mobile browser. Even Google went ahead with lessening the bloat of Android with Kitkat that only requires 512MB of RAM. In the mobile world Chrome browser is one of the worst, I like Chrome on the desktop Linux I'm running but not on the mobile phone/tablet.

Will there be an actual app somewhere in the near future?

Not sure, we really have been focused on getting something out to you guys fast. One of the benifits of being a webapp is that we can bring features/fixes and changes a lot faster due to not having a lot of the red tape. An app from the store however gives permissions to functions on a phone that a browser can't touch which may be useful (Notifications and the like)

That being said, it is something on our minds and we'll be taking on this sort of feedback into consideration.

On Android platform, you can just publish the .apk file here in Runescape website for download - bypassing the need for Google Play registration altogether.
