well i find it hard to believe as not all players come from the same country so even if jagex does want to put these people in jail they would have to depend on the country that the player lives in to punish them which will take a really long time because at the end of the day this is just a game and i don't think any country will take the time to do anything over such a small matter when they can be doing other important things. that is one thing that i hate about the law it has so much red tape it takes to long for anything to get done.

plus the ability to ddos is a really easy skill to learn so no matter how hard or how much money jagex puts into their techs they can't stop ddos attacks. there will always be one ignorant fool out there to keep doing it.

This is true It is very hard to put these people in jail but I don't think that this a what they intend to do what they want to do is find out who and where these ppl are doing it so they can block them and there is not a unlimited supply of these people and it will take awhile as these people are very hard to track down as there very good at covoring there path but I think in the future we will see improvements if they can find these people. You say is easy to learn how to DDos your right and wrong anyone can download a bot to DDoS but it is still a risk many people won't take and the people who do take this risk A. Need a good reason to waste all that time B. Need to be undetectable and that is a very select group of people

Reading this thread, I have realised its time to give up my career of 20 years.
Its time to go into Bridge Selling.

Golden Gate, Sydney Harbour, Brooklyn Bridge..... I got lots of them to sell.
And judging from this thread, I should have no shortage of buyers .....

Sorry to read you've been having trouble with DDoS attacks, Jagex. Best of luck in resolving the issues, and thanks for the heads up on what's been going on - really appreciate it. I personally haven't experienced very many problems regarding lag and disconnections, but I know a couple of my friends did.

We have recently made a multi-million pound investment in our global IT infrastructure to deal with the continued attacks

A linux box with IP Tables, and someone with good enough 'fu' to fly it would do a treat.
Because it causes so much financial damage, it is amazing how much people can be fooled into needing to spend...and are willing to hand over.

Hi Mark Gerhard,

Sorry to hear about these DDoS attacks, it's good to know that you guys are working with worldwide law enforcement to capture these types of criminals.

However, there are other problems, flaws, bugs, glitches, etc., in your game and, it would be good to know when you guys are going to tackle all the other issues.

Certainly, for some people it seems convenient to scapegoat DDoS criminals with all the problems of the game but, surely these criminal attacks are only one of several problems that your company is facing.

It's not that I am skeptical about your story about these criminal attacks, rather I am suggesting that you should react more swiftly to the challenges that plague your company.

Also, when will there be solutions for the other problems in the game--and there are many--for example, when will Mod Thatjim's replacement provide solutions to the problems infesting the NIS?

Anyway, thanks for the news and good luck with that but, when will your company be addressing the other flaws infesting the game?

I don't care if the people are arrested, they just need to put better security and resources in place so people aren't able to ddos the entire game offline. If protection was set in place you wouldn't have to worry about people doing this kind of stuff because they wouldn't be able to.

Two birds, one stone.

For over a year now
, we have been the target of numerous DDoS attacks against our game. For those of you who do not know, a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), is an attack directed at an online service such as RuneScape.***, designed to disrupt the website, forums or game by making it completely unavailable, or disrupting traffic from legitimate end users such as yourself. Techniques vary, but essentially a DDoS attack involves overwhelming the online service with malicious traffic. This is - unfortunately - a growing plague within the industry that many online services struggle with, and RuneScape appears to be one of the biggest targets.

6 months ago, every jmod denied this when asked.

Seriously Jagex, this is why your game continues to die each year. You focus more on lying about issues and trying to cover them up rather than focusing on what's real and letting everyone know you're trying your best.

The only way I can see this game recovering is to remove both EOC and 07 and revert back to pre-eoc because we're sitting on a dying game here (13k rs3 players and 6k 07 players as of this post, while the exact minute of the eoc update there were 247k players online).
