If anything, Jagex may deserve some slight admonishment simply for the length of time it took them to address the issue. However, from a network security perspective, I can certainly understand
why
they didn't; if you can help it, you never acknowledge flaws or holes in the network infrastructure. You might as well leave your keys in your car and tell someone on skid row where you parked it.
For those of you who are anti-Jagex by trade, please at least read up on some of the topics highlighted in this thread (gold farming industry, how to deal with DDoS attacks, network security, etc.). In the grand scope, it doesn't make sense for Jagex to intentionally hemorrhage users by providing lackluster service. While there are methods to limit disruption, someone who is dead-set on creating a disturbance will find a way to do so.
