The second reason is also a suggestion:

-You were giving out rewards for those who took part in prestige, even though you said it was optional, giving any kind of reward will automatically force completionists to do it.
Like a minigame, for example, Barbarian Assault. It's optional, you don't have to do it, but if you don't you can't get fighting torso (and others) or completionist cape.

While yes, it would make sense to have rewards to show off, it wouldn't make the content truly optional.

Sad to see this idea go. It would really liven up the lower level content areas if it had been implemented. Hopefully Jagex can find ways to enhance the idea of a prestige system so that the community will like. But seeing as the community is so insubordinate, I see it as being near impossible. That is, if Jagex uses another poll to decide on whether or not to implement it.

Why are people bringing up EoC when this is about prestige? EoC wasn't liked at the start just because it was completely different from what combat was before, simple click, the majority of people who have adapted to EoC actually like it better. At the start I didn't like it either but it grew on me. Sometimes you just gotta move on and give new things a chance.

Also thank you Jagex for the Poll. I'm sure that the majority of the vets are happy that you've done this.
