I hate to say this....but this is the most depressing update ever. With "channeling" and "cooldowns" the dynamic of the game has totally changed. It is almost impossible to deal damage without using one of the "new abilities." These abilities not only totally change how Runescape work but also make Runescape resemble many other MMORPGs, like WoW or League of Legends.
I loved how Runescape was so unique in its combat system: strength bonus, range strength, magic damage boosts, etc. but this update combines elements and makes the game way too similar to other MMORGPs. Magic now does not even require combat runes like it used to, and the special abilities do not use any runes at all. Range also now features these "ammoless abilities."
Please alter the "new game" to allow the old style mechanics to feature new add ons: dual wielding, the new armours and weapons, new abilities ( that do not change the original gameplay of RuneScape ) and any new goodies that may arise in the future.
The graphical updates and the ability to have a huge new range of armours and weapons is awesome. I even like how weapons do not necessarily have special attacks any more. What I STRONGLY dislike is how the abilities dominate standard combat and not only WAY over power the old "special attacks" but make "standard auto-retaliation combat" almost worthless.
Runescape does not need to resemble other MMORPGs, its uniqueness has what has attracted me to keep playing for over 7 years now, same with my best in real life friend Swordfish332 ( who has been playing for an equal amount of time ).
Go back to the unique originality that keeps players playing Runescape, while adding new content and not changing the game dynamics by a multipler of over 9000. Thanks,
