The warband update might create hotspots-but it would have been far better if they was just within the wilderness instead of being a D&D. With this wand only being lvl 70-it is unlikely that the reward will be worth the risk-especially if the events are to be announced like demon mobs are. If that's the case-it's basically a shout out for "All pkers-arrive here within x minutes!"..which kills the update.
Wilderness updates should take a hint from revs-as they were proven to work in that they attracted pvmers, lone pkers and clans all at once on every world with no announcements required. The risk was and still is worth it. With these warbands being announced and "attackable in every way" mechanics being in place-it is likely that the risk will not be worth it. As was the case with bloodtrees-I expect this to become dead content.
While hotspots defiantly are welcome-D&D's will not effectively create them and the wilderness does not need pvmers. It needs more people period and this will not occur until two serious issues are fixed:
-The skull system was proven to be more popular. I believe returning it would go a long ways towards making the wilderness more active again. No skull pkers also often risked more then those that were skulled. But now-we have nothing but welfarers and a drastic risk imbalance which will be addressed in my next point:
-Batwing should be switched with mystic, which would move a mage's armor risk near that of rune. The larger problem is with range: Hc being a 11k godsword, salamanders only costing 500gp, lvl 65 armor costing below 40k, etc. The only way this can be addressed is returning bh worlds as the minimal risk requirement would remedy the problem. There is no other solution that is practical and the crucible was not even remotely similar.
Believe magic to only be for support? Think again. It's just as valid of a Pking style as melee and range is.
