The more I see of the Sixth Age and Runescape 3, the more concerned I become for the longevity of the game. I was very hyped for all of the wonderful things coming into the game, but the change has been so dramatic and so fast, there's almost no room to swallow in between chews. Now, I legitimately like EOC. I think it is fantastic, but like many others, I know it was rushed, and a rushed job projects poor quality -- granted there has been plenty of time to sew up the patches.
The problem is, though, that Runescape is going through so many drastic changes at once, that many of us cannot find a foothold. Everything we've known about this game has become a blurred memory in practically a single instance. So to speak, I think everything became "real" when Lumbridge was affected by the events of the Sixth Age. The fact that players can change how the game looks is not a very appealing idea to me (simply because I do not trust other players, with good reason too).
In all honesty, I cannot see Runescape surviving the next five years. To be prefectly honest, I would be shocked if it survives the next two. Essentially, what it boils down to, for me, is that the hearth for the heart comfort that this game used to project is entirely gone. It has changed beyond recognition, and when I have noticed that change in the past few years in general, it has always been a bad omen. It's a change in outlook -- a change in principles.
So, after my subscription has expired, I do not think I will be renewing. And while the ignorant children might say "they say that and then they always comeback," but what they fail to realize is that once the foundation for reason and purpose is torn down, there will be no return -- essentially, there is nothing to return to. You see, we set out to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me. And so, I am embarking on the last ship to leave Middle Earth for the White Shores of Valinor.
