Bots.
Botting accounts made by account making bots.
Accounts made solely for the free spins to get tradable rewards like fish mask or 10m gp just to trade to mains, made by players with mains or botters/gold farmers.
This is nothing to be proud of. How many *people* play Runescape? Of the people who play, how many of them have not botted, scammed or hacked accounts?
I fear this is yet another statistic that will be misused by Mark Gerhard to try and justify some derpy money-grabbing update. "200 million people now think bought spins are fantastic!" he'll say...

With everyone is complaining about the bots and gold farmer, I don't see any mention of the account that make use of these people. With so many bots etc there must be market out there for their services. Can you add those to your list of non legit accounts that make up the total as well?
How about trying to help Jagex eliminate these as well as the bots, instead of just sitting round complaining. I'm sure suggestions would be listened to.

Pretty much as everyone else has stated already, we are all sure a majority of those accounts are bots. But in the end we have and will continue to deal with them. Congratulations to Jagex for creating this game and reaching this "Milestone"

Yes there is bots but there isn't a lot of people trying to help jegex eliminate these players/robots. so just stop complaining and be happy that runescape is about to reach 200 million players. I sure am...

Congrats Jagex! ^_^ And everyone...this is an achievement for how many accounts are created, not how many real people play all the time. So if people care about the game enough to create more accounts, then yeah great. All MMO's have their own botting issues, who cares, this is something to be proud of.

as said by people before, could we have legitimate statistics that state exactly how many of these accounts that are made are made by actual players who want to play this game rather than those who make accounts to take advantage of the accursed wheel and/or for botting gold farming? we'd all be very interested to see those numbers despite the fact we already know the vast majority of those accounts are throw-aways or bots.
