I'm a fan; I like the game, and kudos to Jagex for developing it.
However this thread struck me as just weird. How on Earth is this 200 million something to celebrate? That's just foolish.
The large number of accounts is a measure of a problem; the problem of bots. If you could get the numbers of accounts DOWN; by increasing confidence that they are legitimate accounts, then you would have something to celebrate.
But the 200 million accounts at present is not something to celebrate; it's more an indication of failure to handle the bots issue sufficiently well. I'm not intending that as criticism; I appreciate just how hard it is to handle the problem and the work people are putting in to deal with it.
But given the issues, trying to celebrate the number of accounts is just silly.

200m accts created since RS launched is an impressive achievement. People seem to forget that a REAL person has to create an account even if they then immediately turn it into a bot acct or a gold farmer acct, it was still made by a real person, and those people probably create multiple accounts too, or are you not going to count those either? I have 2 accounts, one of which I have long since forgotten the pw to, so she is a "throw away", but she was a freeplayer. I never got the chance to make recovery questions for her before I forgot the pw too. Every account matters in the end when it comes to the full total of accounts created, even if most of them are controlled by lazy pieces of crap that use bot programs (but then that is their loss and they have no clue what playing the game is actually all about). And as a side note: I do not think it was the return of free trade that caused the influx of bots, I think it was the email requirement for logging in. After all an email is free to create and anyone can make as many stupid emails as they want! Thus emails and not a unique user name makes for easier bot creation!

Sorry to shatter your world, but bot accounts are being autogenerated. Nothing genuin with it at all. 200 mil is just an empty, cold number - nothing to celebrate.
The celebration should have been about real, ACTIVE PLAYERS, contributing to the community, but then the number would have been tiny, barely a million or something like that.
Jagex knows that a million players isn't as impressive to the investors/customers, therefor they create this lie and stupidity about "200 mil players" ><
It's all about money..

I'm definatly submitting a submision for this competition, and it might be the best video give, but also the most tart, concise, and brutally honest. Therefore it won't be a winner, despite being more original and well made than most of the submissions will be.

Considering all of the macros and hacking accounts, the milestone isn't 200 million as it really is 100 million. I can guarantee that at least half of the accounts ever created weren't made or used by human players, but rather machines. Nevertheless I will continue to remember runescape like it was when i joined in 2006, when it was simpler and more fun. For the milestone, I'd like to see either a re-opening of RS classic, or making a RS based off of the game at its peak.

I am sure that Ivp got something very special store just for you to celebrate this epic player number. While not forgetting that there isn't almost at all unactive accounts, so I can happily say this epic 200m players just awesome, ground-breaking milestone!
