Ok, look, Jagex is not stupid.
First, they want money to pay for the 2007 servers. If you are not willing to pay to vote yes, how can they count on you to pay for the upkeep and staff required to run the 2007 servers?
So if you are f2p, sorry no vote, because Jagex can't be sure if what you say is true. Put your money where your mouth is, get membership and vote.
Second, if 50k vote yes, jagex can assume that maybe 5k (10% very optimistic) will pay for the $15 dollar additional membership fee, maybe only 1k.
If 250k vote yes, they can assume more of a percentage of that base will pay the additional $5 for servers and staff, though it might take more staff. So the more people that say yes, the less the additional membership fee will be charged.
If 500k vote yes, jagex is figuring people will pay just to play 2007scape and so they can offer it free with paid membership. The additional members would make up any money it would cost for servers and additional staff to run the servers.
I think Jagex is wrong on how many will actually play and how many can be attracted to the game or back to the game by offering 2007scape, but we shall see.
I see 50k people voting for this easily. 250k? Maybe. After all, I think the vote is 2 weeks long. That give plenty of people to get 2 or 3 membership accounts to vote yes and show Jagex how dedicated you will be for providing revenue for the operation of the servers and staff needed to run the servers.
