I can't say as I am a fan of this idea. In all honesty I'm quite concerned over the impact this will have on the game as it currently stands...

Still, I believe this is a sound business idea, and the impact on the community in the long term is no greater than the split between f2p and p2p who tend not to mingle.

All in all I enjoy EOC, though it is not without it's problems which will need to be fixed. Generally I would simply say "stick with it and let the cry-babies come around when they are done with their tantrums..."

In this particular case however, being as sticky as it is, I am going to suggest that whatever choice you make you should make it fully. Either do this right, and commit appropriate manpower to the task for proper maintenance... Or don't do it at all.

In short, I say: "Go for it if you really think it will help, but don't put out a half-ass middle ground as an olive branch. Change happens, and this game changes regularly. If these players want a game that doesn't change, might I suggest battleship, checkers, and cards?"

I cant believe it ! It's about time Jagex :) i just hope that we can use our current accounts (which i worked on mine for a solid 7-8 years in the old runescape) on these new 2007 servers :) I didn't put in hours and days of hard work, dedication, and money into this game to just throw my account away. I hate Eoc with a passion but i dont want to have to start fresh again :(

Thank you Jagex for this huge opportunity!

2007 was a very successful year for RuneScape and Jagex as a company, as it was one of the years that brought so many new players into the world of RuneScape. This increased the popularity of RuneScape immensely. I hope that every player sees sense and chooses to vote for an old server, as it can give newer players an insight to what RuneScape was pre-EoC and possibly before even the Grand Exchange was released.

Giving players this opportunity will show them how RuneScape was before it was made easy (Grand Exchange, etc.) and how players had to work on trading and marketing skills to get anywhere within the world of RuneScape.

I thank Jagex once again, for giving us RuneScape players that have been here for so many years, the chance to relive the parts of RuneScape we loved the most.

I was so happy hearing this, but after doing some research I got little bit disappointed, clan chats came out in august 6th of 2007 which means it had the gameframe change if I'm not wrong.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Jagex, I know you make a lot of people happy. But there are loads who want to play Pre-EoC servers, which are from 19 November 2012. Please support us as well, we only need the EoC removed. That way we can play on from the moment we've quitted, because of EoC. Before that, RuneScape was perfect!

I enjoyed that era of Runescape gameplay significantly more than the current one, and would love to see it return in a more viable situation, but this plan seems doomed from the start as outlined currently.

1) Most players will not want to put in the time investment of starting from scratch all over again, especially if you cannot be logged into both games at once, so playing the old version means that you are losing time-oppurtunity on the current version.

2) Part of what made older RS more enjoyable was that it was actually a challenge / serious time commitment to level up. This is a catch 22 however, because that same slower xp rate will deter players from playing.
---As far as I've heard, the most popular RS 2006 simulators have a ~5x xp rate, and have a significantly larger PvP clan world than regular RS does due to the combination of stat availability and the wilderness when it was still good.

So the question is this: Did you (Jagex) decide to make everyone start from scratch because the back-up you are working with does not have player accounts making it an impossibility, or is there some reasoning behind this that we should be arguing against?

I really ...really am disappointed Jagex, what about the free players? I don't mind paying to play, but I want f2p servers... atleast you could make f2p servers available for those who pay...I enjoyed f2p pking and the range/2h....PLEASE BRING BACK F2P & we will pay!!

Ok so a quick question: Will random events be back such as the river troll? My memory doesn't serve to well even though I have been playing for 8 years on + off bearing in mind.

Also I am definitely excited about it's my only concern would be goldsellers and bots ruining it. Also starting from scratch? Does this mean no party hats?

Everything in 2007 will be included. So if River Trolls were a Random Event back then, they'll be there. Not too sure about where Discontinued Rares will fit into the equation - if everyone is starting over, there won't be accounts with items earned from previous holiday events. I'm sure more will become clear as things progress though. :)
