"103,164 people currently online" as of the writing of this reply. That is a very sad number for a weekend day, especially when I have personally seen much higher numbers on week days during normal school seasons and without bonus xp and increased drop rates in the past, add to that the fact that quite a few are bots and that makes it far worse.

IVP, quit with the money grubbing, you are killing Jagex and Rune$cape.

Repost: "Can't say I didn't see this coming. This game has been steadily declining for the past few years, but I haven't seen this many people quit since they took away the wild! EoC is a huge reason why Jagex must stoop this low, but not the only reason. There is also their micro-transactions, unfair advantages, and heaps of XP they devalued along the way. I used to LOVE training, but now I can basically just stand around talking to people while I watch my skills go up without even clicking! This is no longer a game, it's just handout after handout. Many people would have more fun with the game in F2P, at least in F2P they aren't giving you all of your XP.
I can't believe you guys messed up this bad. I didn't even know it was possible."

Jagex, seriously - I feel your pain. You have a declining market share in an increasingly expensive to run game, but in trying to rescue the game not only for yourself, but the community - you are in *act severing what remains of the fragile relationship you have with the majority of said community.

I have to say I find the number of "anti jagexers" still playing the game because they still love it annoying.

As someone who recently rejoined after having quit for 6 years, I came back to what I felt was a refreshed and updated Runescape, one that I felt inclined to have another pop at. So that's what i'm doing - everything's gravy except the botting.

People need to grow up about the SOF - micro transactions for real world currency are just part and parcel of MMORPG's in this day and age - everyone does it, and if Jagex didn't - they would be more the mug. The key here is limiting Micros to aesthetic and *small* xp bonuses - even then its essentially gambling with the SOF because there is no guarantee of any xp. If some mug wants to spend $800 on SOF tic**** then firstly: A) LOL B) What a mug C) get on with your own game and enjoy the fact it costs very little.

This recruiting malarky however - ditch it fast and have a serious rethink. It's almost like you have a high level botting gang leader working at Jagex who has steered this project. Absolutely ridiculous and the sooner you accept your mistake and re think - the better it will be for you.

I left in 2006 or whenever it was because Jagex ignored it's community and got rid of the wildy and free trade thinking it would improve the game - it didn't - thousands upon thousands quit and now you're fighting to get those numbers back.

You do that - with content, and employing the right people. Do you have no lateral thinkers at Jagex whatsoever?

It seems to me that the only real direction you can go with the recruitment drive has to avoid XP altogether - encourage people to recruit people, not bots & bots.

Sorry this is so long but just to finish off -

It seems to me that the only viable solution to the recruitment issue is this:

Either a mixture of or a single instance of:

. Membership discount for a period of time for every recruited member you get. i.e. £5
off your membership if you recruit a friend.

. Pieces of absolutely stunning aesthetic equipment - REMEMBER IT HAS TO BE WORTH PEOPLES WHILE (that have their own use and properties but are not some sort of game destroying god item).

Ditch the xp malarky, don't cut your dedicated members hands off to spite their wallet, and take serious action to get rid of the bots. This current system is destined to: A) Force more members from the game and/or B) increase the number of bots further.

If you are struggling to get rid of bots - TELL YOUR COMMUNITY! They're still here after all aren't they? They would definitely appreciate the honesty.

As far as microtransactions and RWT goes - from a member who has been around on and off for over 6 years - here are my suggestions: RWT is difficult to abolish, but the problem will diminish when you get rid of bots.

Keep an eye on dodgy gambling clans run by thieving scamming morons aswell because 80% of them sell money via RWT'ing. Why aren't those particular clans being shut down? You have the means to check on them, are you doing so?

RWT is without a doubt the hardest issue to solve - every MMO struggles with it, you can never really hope to eradicate it, but just to subdue it. You have to say though that it often grows from being a symptom. And you could argue it is a symptom of what I see to be a huge separation of wealth in RS. Whilst with inflation there are many gambling hosts running around with 10 max cash stacks on 10 different accounts - there are thousands of new and intermediate players who struggle to make any money and are constantly scammed out of what little they earn - by the aforementioned. Address this somehow and RWT out of desperation will drop.

@Shadow2021:

"Sounds like a desperate push..."

Indeed, it does. It won't get any better, unfortunately. This game left its historical core direction on December 3, 2010; the day Andrew Gower sold all his shares in Jagex, Ltd, and the same day IVP secured a controlling 55% ownership of Jagex.

IVP has a history of driving game direction in a very similar manner to what everyone's seeing with Runescape now. They've done it with other companies and their flagship games, and the results look cheap and tawdry.

There's a reason I'm no longer a member, and won't likely ever be again. I also don't play the game anymore, not even in free-to-play mode. I'd rather remember the good years fondly.
