Wow, frankly this isn't a bad way to do this at all. Forcing you to stay near/on the world means the two of you need to be logged on at the same time, the bonus xp is 10% of what they earn, which means that account needs to train a significant amount for you to really reap any bonuses...
The only thing I wonder about is the membership thing, but I'll let that slide.
Seems well designed, nice job.
One last suggestion: Perhaps cosmetic titles for number of people recruited?
1 - Good Friend
10 - The Friendly
25 - The Connected
50 - The Popular
100 - The Fun Guy/Girl
1000 - The Leader
1500+ - The Famous
Or something like that.
EDIT: And clearly people aren't understanding the concept here:
You will never gain more than a 10% bonus unless near the player, and then it turns into 20%. No matter how many friends are referred, all their gained xp goes into a pool for different skills, and you will gain a 10% bonus off that pool.
Say you referred four people. They each gained 100k Woodcutting xp. You have access to 40k bonus Woodcutting xp, that will be doled out through a 10% experience boost while training woodcutting. This doesn't increase to 40% because of four friends, but remains at 10%.
If your friends never train summoning, you won't be getting any bonus summoning experience, as well.
